Time For Me To Get Outta Here !! (so. Cal) Anyone Else ?
I went to a couple years of college in Santa Barbara, I'd love to live there if it wasn't so expensive. But I really like it up here in Nw washington. Summers are 'hot' for about 6 weeks, winters don't get to cold, we get about 2 weeks of snow down near sea level. Lots of mountains to hike, 4wheel, dirtbike, snowboard, rivers, lakes, ocean...Might be worth checkin it out.
Rivers overflow. TRUTH ITEMS: He didn't tell you about our NorEasters that can turn Whatcom County into a freezer box for weeks on end. True, snow isn't as much as elsewhere BUT we do have our moments of fame. This area has the highest home prices in the State of Washington. Fuel prices are outrageous and we live in the shadow of 4 refineries (I ought to know, that's where I make my living). Traffic, in comparison to what you're use to is nothing, however, we think it's problematic. I personally think some of our politicians went to politicians school in California. One good point, we don't have vehicle smog inspection yet, in Whatcom County (Bellingham is thusly located.)
Matter of fact, we're moving to south of Denver (Parker or Castle Rock or something similar) (our adult children live there) in a few years, so you can be our replacements here if you so desire. That way we have zero population growth.

Except for 20 years in the military, I've spent my life in this neck of the woods and I'm pushing - - well, lets just say I can retire in 3 years at 100%.
All kidding aside, there's alot to offer up this way. Personally, there is no way in the world I'd live in Seattle or King County. Just too radical down that way. Traffic is always a mess.
Poulsbo's comment about "immigrants", well, their only problem is Poulsbo has too many people of Scandinavian stock.

Yep, Monument is nice, a bit too high up for me. They supposedly get a bit more snow then elsewhere but I've found that to be a very relative term. My daughter and son-in-law just bought a place in Parker. Was originially listed for 260K. They bought it for 224K. (Very motivated sellers). The market has dropped out. It's a buyer's market now. I've been looking at Denver Craigslist, just to get a feel and you can tell, there's mighty fine looking homes, going cheap. Of course there's the few who haven't caught on that it's no longer a seller's market but on the whole....
It really depends on where you are in life. We're rapidly approaching retirement age and that drives us in a direction that perhaps doesn't come near to what you're looking for.

im moving this sunday! im 18 and had enough my dad got me into the caterpillar think big program and i picked a place im going to North Dakota. i have had enough of cali. i just got back from a drive out from indiana and the country out that way was beautiful, now im not so sure im going to stay north dakota but im sure somewhere out there. there's way to many people in cali and most of them are very rude. plus laws and restrictions. the pace is to fast and no one ever takes time to sit back and enjoy life. i cant wait to move! just had to give my .02 and rant a little bout cali
Yeah I hear you guys about So Cal. Last winter I had to wear a tee shirt under my shirt because it was so cold. The traffic sucks it seemed like it took forever to get from the surfing at the beach in the morning to skiing in the mountains at night.
Try Prescott AZ it think it will fit the bill not too hot in the summer and only a little bit of snow in the winter. 90 miles from Phoenix if I'm not mistaken.
