Time For Me To Get Outta Here !! (so. Cal) Anyone Else ?
Well i hate to say it but i think its time for me to get out of southern california.I was born and raised just north of los angeles (ventura county) and it was a great place to grow up, and live in for the last 45 years, but it just isn't the same place anymore. Way to many inconsiderate,self-centered, egotistical individuals now.
I am fully aware that anywhere you go there will be some kind of drawback whether it be the weather, the economy, etc. What i am looking for is a semi small town, Little snow in the winter is ok, and a place that doesn't get over 95* in the summer. A place where when you walk down the sidewalk the person walking toward you actually waves and says Hi !! instead of looking at the ground, talking on his cell phone, and then bumps into you and looks back like it was your fault
Some of the places I'm looking at: Colorado, idaho, alaska, NE. washington

I've only been there once and we got there on dirtbikes. They allow dirt bikes and quads on their streets, the people were very friendly and it's a very small town.
I wouldn't mind retiring there!!
I try to stay optimistic in all I do, however I fear that what you are seeing in California is not just limited to California but can be found everywhere.
While smaller communities will exhibit this behavior less, its likely that its only less because the population is smaller.
We did exactly as your are contemplating and currently live in a small ag-based community that still has a town square. However, we have found that the rudeness we fled from is still observable here as well.
If your fortunate enough to find that story-book town your after, I advise that you keep quiet about it or it will be over-ran.
Rich.

Racer, I know what your saying.
Iv been in Calif all my life and in the same county as you for the past 20+ yrs.
It IS getting bad.
Wife and I thought of moving to Utah but they have a worse infiltration than we do.
I retired last August, and The only reason we re sticking it out now is my folks health isnt the greatest.
Other than that, there is no reason for me to stay here.

I went to a couple years of college in Santa Barbara, I'd love to live there if it wasn't so expensive. But I really like it up here in Nw washington. Summers are 'hot' for about 6 weeks, winters don't get to cold, we get about 2 weeks of snow down near sea level. Lots of mountains to hike, 4wheel, dirtbike, snowboard, rivers, lakes, ocean...Might be worth checkin it out.
Heck, I don't think theres anywhere left to go. The Yankees weren't content destroying florida and everywhere else they touch, like So Cal too, now there swarmin all over the western north carolinaa mountains like locusts. Our Mountain escape is being over run. My wife an Asheville native and many others can only watch as their home gets ruined.
Good luck

Grand Forks North Dakota, That is what you descibed. Touch of snow in the winter, Friendly people, not over 95 in the summer. Beleive it or not the state is loosing population. Google it. Cheap living. The only draw back is winter. -43f is the coldest I've seen it.
I'm a native NDer, and I can tell you Grand Forks does get over 95 in the summer. It's also on the east end of the state, so it's humid, too.
Stay in centeral and Western ND and it's much drier. Bismarck, Jamestown, and Dickinson are all great.
I've heard that when you leave CA, you're supposed to go to CO... It seems that half the people in CO are from CA anyway!
Small wonder then that Boulder CO is the second most leftist cook city in the nation-- second only too SF, of course

Bismark, That is a nice town. Located on a river, the Missouri. Yeah I would agree that it does get humid in GF but only when the wind isn't blowing 40 MPH.
Minnesota has a lot of nice small towns. Most of them are built around lakes to.
I'm heading to Tennessee when its time to flee this communist state.
I swore the last time I was in Cali. for a job ( 1995 ) that I would never voluntarily set foot in that state again, and so far I have been able to keep my vow.
Personally, I loved Northern Fla, but it was too expensive to live there, and they were getting an influx of Yanks.............
Perhaps it is time to find an Island!

Born and bred Missourian here. Love this state and would never leave but we do have our share of floods, humidity, tornadoes and heat. And some areas have skeeters so bad that you can't be outside after dusk. Alot of the summer is spent in 90 degree heat and 85% humidity. But I'll take that over those negative temps anyday.
