Re:Taurus PT145 Millenium

I have a PT-111 and I'm satisfied with it. It's reliable, compact, and light. I have heard reports of cracking frames on the early 145's, but hey, that's why it has a lifetime warranty. I have nothing but good things to say about Taurus' warranty policy. I have a PT-22 that I shoot the crap out of at the range because it's a fun little gun, but it's made of pot metal. Taurus has replaced the frame twice at no cost, and they've sent me several recoil buffers free, too.

Re:Taurus PT145 Millenium

I also have a PT-111, as a carry piece, and have only heard of problems with frame cracking only on the .45 caliber models.
I've fired approx 600 rnds through mine without a hitch.
The Taurus DAO trigger is stiff but goes bang everytime it's pulled.
This is a JICSH pistol, not a target piece.

PS I'm looking for a Colt Commander to use for primary carry.

Re:Taurus PT145 Millenium

Were there certain serial numbered guns that were effected by the frame cracking or is this on all of the 45's?

Monty, I haven't had one come through the shop here, but I have heard of some problems with them.

See if the guy will let you shoot it before buying it, Taurus does make some pretty decent firearms, but as with any manufacturer, you can get a bad one.

I've got the same gun but in .40 caliber. I love it. My dad has the .45 caliber and he hasn't had any problems so far. I don't shoot mine that much, it's not really made for target practice. I carry it concealed and keep it in mine truck all the time. I think they're great guns for the money.

No experience with the Taurus. I am partial to my Kimber Custom 45acp. 8)

Re:Taurus PT145 Millenium

Well, I went ahead and bought the gun. I took it out and put about 40 rds through it yesterday and I really like it! At 40ft I am dead on, after that it gets a little to the right and up or down. But, I suspect this is due to my trigger pull and the anticipation of the recoil. The guy threw in a box of ElDorado Starfire 230's and some FMJ 230's along with an extra mag.

I did alot of research and called around about the frame cracking issues on the PT145. Apparently, after September of 2001, all PT145 Milleniums were free from this defect. The serial numbers that had the problems were the "NU" numbered guns. Mine is a "NV" which has a build date of March 2002. Apparently they had a bad run of Polymer before Sept. 2001.

Re:Taurus PT145 Millenium

Congrats Monty. I hope you enjoy it. As I told you in my PM to you, I couldn't hit squat with the PT145 I had. Dead on with anything else (meaning Glocks), but with the Taurus I had a really hard time hitting a 25 yard pistol target. At 7 yards I had DECENT groups....but not good enough for me to be happy with it. I sold it back to the dealer I bought it from (at a loss) and bought a Glock 30.

Enjoy. Safe shooting.

Re:Taurus PT145 Millenium

Hoss,

Thanks for your help. Hopefully it will work out. If not, im not afraid to send it down the road kickin rocks

BTW: on Taurus' website...it has a place for product enrollment where you typed in your serial number and where you bought it,,,is this the same as sending in the warranty card or do I need to go ahead and do that as well?
