T-mobile
T-mobile
The wife and i are thinking of switching our cell phone service to t-mobile, anyone out there have them and how is their coverage and customer service. Thanks in advance.
The wife and I have TMobile. Aside from the contract (I don't like contracts), they're fine. Excellent coverage, very few dropped calls, and the few times I've called customer service, they've been great. Been with them for about 4 years now, no complaints at all.

I also like T-mobile and have been pretty happy with their coverage. Doesnt work in the areas of Canada we drive through. Only thing I dont like is: We do not want, or pay for text messaging (we are on the basic 600 min package) however, if somebody does text message us and we accidentally push the button on the phone to recieve it, we get charged 10 cents. If you pay the extra monthly $ for unlimited text messaging it is free but like I said we dont want it. On the other hand, some companies actually charge for an "outside" call to check your voice mail, t-mobile doesnt.
Ive got that "my faves" thing where you have unlimited minutes to 5 different people. That works out great for me, as I talk to a small amount of people all the time. I don't have anything bad to say about em...yet...
I've been looking at T-Mobile because of their wireless broadband offering. Basically, if you buy one of their two GSM phones (about $50 each) they automatically detect when they're in range of a wireless broadband signal, and will 'connect' to the broadband, and you won't use your cell minutes.
This would work great for me, as I'm usually working from home, and my cell is my business phone, and I have wireless broadband. I think it's only $10 or something like that a month - I need to do more research.

T-Mobile has the best prepaid plan in the country. If you don't use a lot of minutes, it's the way to go. Basically, you can get 10 cents a minute, or less, with no monthly fee if you buy $100 refills cards. They are good for a year.
We don't have T-Mobile ourselves, but I bought a handset to test their service. I'm just waiting for our Cingular, now AT&T, contract to expire. We will probably save $50 a month.
T-Mobile uses GSM and works on their own, Cingular/AT&T, and US Cellular networks. It is not compatible with Sprint, Nextel, or Verizon.

I've had T-mobile since before it was T-mobile... actually, had T-mobile through two separate ownerships/name changes. Originally had them in college as Aerial and then Voicestream a few years later and now it's T-mobile. No complaints on my part... I had a nationwide plan with a bunch of minutes. Great coverage where I live and travel, some dead spots in 'nowhere' Kansas but I don't know anyone who has cell service there. The one complaint I would have if it was important to me is that they haven't offered me any phone upgrades and I've been a faithful paying customer for 8 years.
I actually just switched to T-Mobile from Verizon last week. Still have my Verizon number, but needed another number. I got the T-mobile Dash off of www.letstalk.com(HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)!!! Love the phone so far. My Faves is AWESOME. I text a lot, so I got the unlimited txting...So far so good. Verizon's coverage is a bit better in my area. No complaints.
Seriously, lets talk is awesome. I got a FREE $350 phone.

T-Mobile performance
This is truly strange for me to respond to. I moved out to L.A. to work for Tmobile. The service out there, by far, was the worst thing I've experienced. I moved back to N.Y.,home town, performance is very poor. Mind you, I do a great deal of driving from N.Y.C. out in all directions about 2 hours. I've used most of the "other" carriers out there. TMO, as they refer to it as, was exceedingly the worst. I call a great deal to Dallas, Texas. I get the same performance problems. The person I call is also on TMO and they constantly drop calls or the sound quality is so poor that I wind up getting aggravated and angry towards the caller. visa versa. The ONLY reason I got their service is because it was mandatory for me to use as a TMO employee. They suck! I call the customer service. If you enjoy talking to machines, then this is for you. If you enjoy repeating yourself three or four times, this is for you. Needless to say, an aggravating process. Be careful...you lock yourself in for two long years. Verizon is the way to go. CLEARLY.
Had them. Hate their technology. Verizon, along with Sprint uses CDMA, instead of GSM, the other common technology.
CDMA is horrid in the boonies, unless you are close to a cell tower. If you aren't, you will experience drops as system traffic load increases, something that doesn't happen nearly as often with GSM.

Same situation for me, been using cingular for 5 years and was satisfied, but when at&t took over customer service went down the drain, plans are getting worse, and now they are jerking us around about upgrades, i have 6 mo. left on my contract and the wife's is up so trying to see which way to go. I had sprint some years ago and hated it, verizon is good but everyone i know with them had to pay steep deposits with no rhyme or reason, they wanted a $1000 deposit from a friend with great credit (he ended up going with cingular.) Might just buy some ebay phones and enjoy the no contract thing for a while.

I have used T-mobile broadband, but never the cell phone service.
I use Cingular the new AT&T. The only place it hasn't worked was in Fitjar, Norway and Brunei and it worked in Brunei after I bought a local phone.
