Sweaty boots

For about a year, my "local" Red Wing dealer has been after me to spend $65 on a boot dryer for my new work boots. All the time I thought it was a gimmick to get me to waste $$, but boy was I dead wrong.

So I finally caved, as I had a $10 discount coming to me......

It's made by the Peet Company, and worth every dime. At the end of the work day, I take my sweaty boots off, pull the insoles out, drop my boots on it, and turn on the wall switch..

Awesome, is all I can say, and supposedly, besides making my boots have no "smell" inside, they are going to last longer as the leather doesn't get as "funky".

Mine says "red Wing" on it, but you can buy it just about anywhere. It doesn't come with an "on / off" switch, so I installed what is called a "pilot light switch" which is simply a Lighted toggle switch on the wall that leads to a duplex on the wall near the boot dryer that I also installed. This allows me to leave the boot dryer plugged in all the time, and use it overnight. When I wake up and go into my basement bathroom to get my boots, I see the red light is on, and turn off the switch. Boots are toasty warm, and dry as a bone....

Worth every penny....

Be sure and clean out the filaments, or at least check them for lint and dust ***** every 6 months or so. I leave mine 'on' all the time. Also, I electrical taped the foot thingys so they stayed in place when I puled my boots off the tubes.

We had a few boot "smokers" at the ski area because of trapped lint and hippie sheddings back in the day...they can start a fire.

I'm almost as bad as a woman on shoes.
I have two pair of work boots, two pair of running shoes, and a pair of dress shoes.
If Im in my dress shoes, Im doing anything to break a sweat, otherwise, I dont wear the same shoe do days in a row. Running shoes get worn for an hour or so at a time. work boots may get worn all day, but they get a day off to dry and air out.

Whata buncha ladies y'all are!

If you want dry boots, slip a plastic bag over your foot before you put it in the boot! Your boots will last a long time, you won't have to spend 65 bucks for some yuppie dryer and your feet will still stink like they're supposed to!

PS: If you are drying a pair of high heels and drop your lipstick near the drier, wear safety glasses so you don't poke a eye out...

Just clownin'...

The older I get, the more luxuries I seem to enjoy. Warm, dry boots is one of them.

Sixslug, I am with you. Come live in a northern climate, put on boots in the morning that didn't fully dry overnight and see how you feel 30 minutes later while you are working outside.

uh huh...

Throw in a good pair thick wool socks and its a comfortable day. I dont mind cotton socks if I'm just lounging around, but if you risk getting wet or sweating in the cold, wool is the only way to go.

Off subject, but I wear a heavy Merino wool sock in my White's year round, way more comfortable and not too warm in summer, no blister's ...no hot spots. If it is wet...no problem.

I dumped my insulated leather boots for this set up, much preferred!

I just use a small fan, lay my boots on their side, that or lay them on their side with the top at the edge of the register.

My riding buddies turned me on to using a string of Christmas tree lights...the small ones that don't get hot/pick them up cheap in the post-season sales...for drying motocross/off-road riding boots. Its amazing how well they work overnight. Drop half the string in each boot and plug them in...boots are dry and warm the next morning.
