Stress Relief
Stress Relief
I was feeling a little stressed out the other day.
Arrived home, and had to do a few things around the house.
Went out to the garage, and I just knew it was time.
Uncovered the 67 Camaro, fired it up, and went for a little ride.
Half a set of rear tires later, I felt much better.
So, How do the rest of you deal with stress?

I used to save up all my frustrations and then around the end of each April I would pack up my tent and head for Beavers Bend State Park in Southeastern Oklahoma. It was still cool enough that I didn't have to be concerned about insects or snakes and usually there were no other campers. I would spend about 3 days alone in peace and quiet, read a couple of books, take a few pictures, take a walk or just do nothing. I took early retirement last May, age 56, and then hired back to the company as a contractor. It is amazing how my stress level dropped. My wife said she hadn't realized until I retired that I had quit smiling. A few days of retirement and the smile was back. I have had a new Dodge CTD for 3 days now and I'm grinning so much my smile muscles are sore. This truck makes for pretty good stress relief!

I have a spot on top of Waldens Ridge here at home. I pack a lunch, some cigars, a couple of beers and ride my atv up to a bluff overlooking a gorge and sit there for a few hours. Only sound of civilization is the occasional airplane. Sometimes I pack a sleeping bag and a shelter half and spend the night.
I also take off to the mountains and do a little trout fishing if I have the time. Within an hour I have forgotten everything.

Stress isn't too bad in our lives. We don't have kids so anything else we just deal with it. And drink lots of beer. But a great dinner out at a great restaurant works for me. Or polishing my cars when I had them.
I go to school 5 days a week, as well as working 20 hours a week at the university. By Friday, I've got fire coming from my ears.
On the weekends I cut about 10 lawns. Hours of pacing back and forth in other people's yards behind a lawnmower tends to take away any stress that I have built up over the week.
When that doesn't work, I like to do something with my girlfriend such as a long bike ride to nowhere, taking the boat out, or a good game of tennis.

Imagine sitting by a cool mountain stream, the birds singing, the sun shining, a gentle breeze blowing. Looking into the clear cool water you can see the reflection of the sky and the few puffy white clouds. Imagine the cause of you stress sitting there too. Now imagine plunging their head into the stream. Hard. Over and over and over until they are gasping for breath and screaming for mercy. There, feel better now?
