Strange Days Indeed

I'm a government contractor at Kirtland AFB. I found out a couple weeks ago that a new company was taking over 'ownership' of my position on 1 July 04 and that I had to submit my resume to this company for my job that I've been doing for the past 10 years. Yesterday I was told that someone else had been chosen to do this job - but with none of the experience. My last day will be 30 June. That was bad enough.

Yesterday my wife also found out that her position at one of the major hospitals in Albuquerque was being deleted.

So we will both be looking for work.

It's not very often that the same day you find out you don't have a job anymore that your wife is told the same thing about her job.

Looks like God, Almighty, has something very big in store for us.
Keep us in your prayers.

(Although this is a heavy blow, it's nothing compared to the pain and suffering the family of the man slain in Saudi Arabia is going through - say a special prayer for them, too/)

Thanks y'all.

Hang tough Deacon. I've been out of work a couple of times. Funny thing is, once I get another job, its better than before. And theres always work in the medical field.

Good Luck,

Doug

DW, You have the right attitude! There is opertunity in every challenge. God may indeed have something big planned for you.
Just be sure your listening, because opertunity only seems to knock once and then its gone.

You and your family will be in my prayers tonight.

Good luck.

You gotta love (not) the way HR departments work these days. Interview for your present job...I wonder what genius thought that one up. You get to convince someone that you can do a job that you've already been doing...for ten years. Brilliant!!

I swear, if I'm ever out of work again, I will not apply at any company big enough to have an HR department. That is the first sign that working there will be fraught with politics, lunacy and most probably, disappointment.

Do keep this in mind: God WILL NOT give you more than you can handle. Something as good or better will come along.

Another thing is that as many of these organizations subcontract their work, it doesn't take too long for them to realize that cheaper labor is not a replacement for on-site experience.
Unfortunately, by the time the new contract runs out, the experienced labor pool has found new jobs.

One day they'll realize that Low Bidder does not equal Best Cost.

Good luck
Ed

They did that up here at Elmendorf too. I just don't understand! Bad labor politics should be outlawed. That's like hiring a bunch of foreigners to teach English classes in an elementary school.

That means they are going to want you to train the new guy until you leave 30 July. I would take a months vacation. Danged if I would train the man who is taking my job.

Sometimes God closes the door where we are to make us see the open door down the hall. That other door may have been open a long time, but we get comfortable and don't want to check it out. Pray about it - - I have never had a door close where there was another door open somewhere else. The steps of a righteous man are ordered by God.

Hmm, good Sunday sermon, Bob - - can I take up the offering now?

Bob

I'm using my last three sick days on 22, 25, and 28 June. Then on 30 June, I have to out-process (turn in my access badges, clear my computer account, etc, etc). That means I have only four and a half more workdays. And the company has to pay me for the two weeks of annual leave I've saved.

One guy asked me last week what the Lab was going to do with this new Defense Travel System if I lost my job. I told him that if I'm not hired, this new system will be his worry - not mine. My worry will be finding a new job.

I remember some advice from an old First Sergeant almost 20 years ago. He told me "When you start thinking too highly of yourself or think you're indispensable, take that trash can over there and fill it with water. Now, make a fist and put it in the water to the bottom of the trash can. Now, remove your fist. What kind of hole is left??" Each one of us is replaceable. It would be the same thing if we were to die or have a massive stroke and couldn't return to work. Someone would come in and take over our jobs.

Wife said she will probably find out for sure about her job later this week. Anyway, thanks for the prayers and words of encouragement.
