For Annabelle and a few others who wish to bash cops:

People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. Orwell

I don't care to bash Police Officers......I just want them to show as much respect as they would like to receive........I sleep just fine...........I live out where the response time is long enough to where law enforcement is no benefit to me.......I sleep just fine....I don't need anyone looking after me.......rough?.....please........a bit full of our selves aren't we.

I think it's more of your "tone" than anything. Believe me, I feel it too. You have a beef. I don't know what it is but it's there.

So you can "feel" a tone over the dry media of the internet......got to wonder about your perception skills. Try rereading my post which compliment the Police Officers with respect to the majority of them......protecting a brother?

I'm not protecting anyone. I'm just giving you my opinion of your attitude about police officers. Like it or not, that's how you come off. I could care less what you think of them. Just saying...

Wow......stinging.

I have been reading and for once keeping my mouth shut but I’m beginning to feel the need to say a few things.

1) I feel that being a LEO is very similar to being a preacher or minister (the old time type not the mega church type). You almost have to have a calling in order to want to do the job in the first place. But as a city employee myself I feel that this brotherhood thing is a bunch of bull. If you want to have brotherhoods join a fraternity. Your there to uphold the laws of the land, not for some people but for all, if you would not give the average citizen the warning / break then don’t give a fellow cop the break.
2) I treat drinking water for a living by doing this I have more to do with peoples safety and health than most LEO or the FD ever will .I don’t ask for anything but a pay check. I know this is not the popular way of thinking but if I don’t do my job right the county and city do not have enough first responders. I don’t get a break for speeding or other traffic violations because of the profession that I chose (yes I have received breaks just not on a regular basis).
3) Yes I know that no one is using my uniform as a target. Yes I understand that you have to have the “I’m in charge attitude” it has to be that way. But it would be nice to see more cops drop the attitude once it is known that the stop is going to be compliant.
4) Some will say that I just don’t understand but as an average citizen I see more cops disobeying the laws in marked squad cars( driving in a school zone while talking on the cell phone, speeding while in route to the station) than I do the average citizen. It just may be time for law officers to start policing their own ranks before the public in general does it for you by voting or by complaining to city hall .By the way I also know that it is a hard job to do that’s why I don’t .But you signed on for the job do it right .

This is not intended to be a flame ,I have the utmost respect for LEO and I most likely have not made some points as clear as I should have, for that I apologize. It is intended only as my own observations. Maybe ya’ll have good reasons for doing the things that I see if so maybe the only thing that you are doing wrong is not having better PR.

Wink Mom sends everyone outdoors to play......

as long as we keep on topic folks.....

This PARTICULAR cop as in the story. everyone has had first hand experiences it sounds......and your thoughts ARE your thoughts; but be a bit open to comment once you post them.

word to the wise- respect the administrator as this is his site, his rules and
his time addressing your opinion. If ya do not know him then really don't stretch any further opinions. just not fair.

this is open in politics, so we can better play devil's advocate over on that site. this was simply brought up for speculation.... as most members here like to see what diesel heads think besides trucks!

keep your hands off that pie I have cooling.......

Brotherhood,

The silent bond formed between men whom have shared deaths embrace, then returned only to face it again.

Soldiers have it.
Firefighters have it.
Police have it.

I would not be posting this today if it were not for the integrity of my crew, as well neither would they.

My brother a police officer in Fort Worth would not be here today if it were not for the dedication and "brotherhood" of his comrades.

I do my job by choice, thus accepting the fact that I may not come home tomorrow night. That is the simple reason for stating my opinions about the "brotherhood", I have, and continue to live it. I hold no expectation for praise or glory, or hold any expectations that I am "above" anything or anyone. I have been blessed with a deep seated satisfaction that can only be understood by those who do what I do.

With respect for all,

Tim

Believe me, you being a city employee doesn't qualify you to understand. I'll leave it at that.

Jack.
Your right I don’t understand (and hope I never have to).My statement probably did not come across the way it was intended but I mean no disrespect.
But it does seem that the council or (governing body depending on what organization) only believes in giving a raise/ praise to police and Fire. No one thinks that we are needed until the water doesn’t flow or the street has a pothole.
But then again I guess no one needs the cops or FD until they are being shot at or are upside down in the ditch and their house is on fire.
But I think that you could agree that some copes need a small attitude adjustment. I was always told that the best way to lead is to set an example , I do feel that most of the officers I know do this very well its those few that give the rest of you a bad name .
I’m going to go back to keeping my mouth shut and read maybe I’ll start to understand.
No offence taken and I hope none given.

Bigfoot, I will never say your job is not important, even during times of emergency. I was in the middle of Hurrican Alecia that hit Galveston in the early 80s and again in Hurricane Ike last year and all the storms in between. It was people like you that made sure water was safe or told us to avoid it. There are a lot of people involved in times of emergencies that are behind the news breaking scenes that are just as important. Is your job as dangerous? Probably not, but nevertheless just as important. If all of us dont work as team the overall plan just wont work. In all our professions there are those that make the rest of look bad. I dont care what you do. Lets just all try to remember that.
