State Sales Tax

Just got home last night and found a letter in the mail from the state of Pennsylvania ... I just bought a used truck last month and the state says I paid too little for this truck and should give them $493 dollars for more tax ... if the person who generated that letter was in front of me I would hold them underwater til the bubbles stopped ...LOL
They got a bill of sale over amount ago when I went to register the truck , maybe I should have consulted them before I purchased .
I don't have much more to offer them than what they allready have ... I gave them $900 dollars in tax for a truck thats pushing 7yrs

I would ask the state, is it a "State Sales Tax", or a "State Appraisal Tax".

It's the same way in Texas. You pay sales tax based on the NADA or Blue book value.

Same thing in okla.
I bought a R,V. from a C.Union in Missouri. Had all the paperwork including a bill of sale from the c.u.

Okla CHARGED me taxes on "book value" About 2x more than i paid for the R.V.

The transaction was witnessed by 2 of there state sworn notarized representatives ... So they don't even believe there transfer agents that me and the previous owner were standing in front of !
I just typed up a letter to the effect of , I had provide no less than 2 copies of the bill of sale , both drivers license , and all had a notarized stamp .
I love my country but hate the Government with a passion ! They want to control every part of your life and steal as much money from you as possible and give away to all there bleeding heart programs that are bleeding our country dry !

You guys seen this one .

The problem is that SO MANY people have abused the system by lying and claiming to only pay a fraction of what they actually did pay for a vehicle, just so they could cheat the State out of the tax money.

Because of this, if a person who legitimately purchases a vehicle at a low price, they are no longer going to believe you.

I have a Nephew that recently purchased a 2004 Chevy Blazer at a very low price and had some difficulty on the tax issue as well. The reason it was so low, it didn't have a motor in it but DMV was a little slow to want to believe that. I think he got it straight only because he had the receipt from just ordering a new Chevy crate motor for it.

Up here it's not a tax, it's a registration fee. Over 10 years old and it's a flat rate of $170 for 2 years. Less than 10 years? Well I've heard differing stories. We don't have a state sales tax (yet), but several towns have enacted local sales taxes. Needless to say, I do my shopping in a "no tax" zone.
