Beware - XM Radio

I've had XM radio for a long time, and really enjoyed the programming, but seems like the last year, its more commercials and more dj's talking and less radio, kinda annoying, and when my bill came due about 2 weeks ago, it has the Music Royality fee of $43.

I said, nah, thats enough of that fee stuff, I paid it last year with some gripes, and decided to cancel 2wks before the bill was due.

Heres the kicker,
If you cancel, they stated, since you been a loyal customer for x years, we want to give you 3 free months to reconsider no charge.

We'll I got a bill in the mail for 3 months service, $37 due next week. The lady back dated the bill to start early, never credited the 2 wks, plus all this.

Called back this morning, I told them to cancel it over 4 times, each time she kept saying she'd give me another 3 months, 5 months wha? I said you just billed me $37, why? We'll you've signed up for 3 months regular service.

But I'll give you another 3 months free she said. I told her to cancel it again, after her 2 min talk, another 2-3 more times to cancel it gettn angrier by now.

Overall, hopefully its canceled, watch your billing close guys, XM can shove it for all I'm concerned. Thats a scam in itself, give you 3 free, but you'll get a bill in the mail. Lovely.

Its no wonder they are hurting for business, and desperate to get another sucker to sign up.

More reason to love smartphones.

I had sirius (sp?) and I know they merged with XM.

I prepaid for 2 years. When my truck went down, I didn't reup because it would be a while before I could use it. The truck went down a couple of months before the end of the subscription. I didn't get a bill to reup it either. Thought that was strange but didn't worry about it. A full year later I decide to start it again as i did like the NFL channel and pre-season was coming up. I called them and the lady was rude, said I owed them for 3 months service (service I never used, never authorized, never was billed for-- I had no idea!)plus late fees and they were taking me to collections. I told them to shove it. And you know what? I have still have never received any correspondence from them in any form.

Everything was great until about 2 years ago, fee's went up, base cost went up, the online streaming wasn't free anymore, then they merged with Sirus, major downhill since. I think that business model is doomed, and I give it another 5-7 years.

Of all things I like, was the Metallica channel, it was available for about 8 months, then one day it just dissappeared.

The other nice thing was on long road trips, find a nice station anywhere, anytime.

Pandora is working well for me, so honestly, I'm seeing everyone moving to a streaming source now.

We got free XM for 3 months on our honda when we bought it, it was ok, but then they wanted $16.00 a month. Said no thanks, they then offered $10, said no thanks, then $7. We let it expire and then they called and offered $3.00. When Ic an hook up my ipod and have whatever I want, that is the way I'll go.

Plus I like to listen to the 6.7 more than the radio.

They did the same thing to me. After I got the iPhone, someone turned me on to pandora radio. After 6 moths of arguing, they finally canceled my XM.

Sirius came free in my new truck...if I lose my service or get a bill I'll decide whether or not I'll keep it. Had XM for years in my old trucks, never had a problem until I tried to cancel those subscriptions when I sold those trucks....now the only XM's we have are in all the GM vehicles we buy, and they are easy to deal with one those for some reason???

I bought my truck used and Sirus just keeps working and working and working. The original owner must have prepaid for a lifetime's worth of service. Thanks, buddy.

You guys that have to pay for your service, be careful about those teaser deals they bring you back with. They'll insist on a credit card and will charge you BIG money automatically on the next renewal.

Just got off the phone with them to cancel service on a truck I sold. Typical convsersation with a Indian (Not comanche) lady. Took me about 15 minutes to get her to agree to cacncel it. She tried everything she could to keep it, of transfer it to another vehicle.
Geez, the **** truck was SOLD. SEND ME MONEY PLEASE!!

One other piece of good news I'll throw in here. In the past when we talked about XM and Sirius here we learned a little about their lifetime package. We found it was only good for the life of the radio. If your radio crapped after a couple years, so did your plan.

Yeah, I ditch Sirius over a year ago when they jacked up the fees. Pretty much use the Ipod for my music pleasure now.

I did the Sirius 2 years back in 06. Service was cut off in 08, and they still sent me a bill for excess service. I didn't pay it, and I never heard anything from a collector.

Fast forward to late last year. I decided to get the lifetime subscription. Sirius w/ the best of XM.....$750 friggin dollars. Oh yeah, the record labels can shove the royalty fee up their ***. What's wrong with a s s??

I am not renewing my Sirius either. They bang me for a bill to renew and then send me stuff in the mail for a 6 month free offer after I already paid the full ride.. Not to mention just as before, now more commercials and other junk that I have to pay to listen to? I get that for free on the local FM channel. I will miss the NASCAR channel and thats about it. I got an IPOD for Christmas and I can listen to the music I like on long road trips.

Dito. I have never paid a peny to Sirius. I bought my 06 when it was a little over a year old and the dealer told me the PO had just renewed the subscrtiption and that he may cancel it at any time to get a refund so he said enjoy it while it lasts. That was 3 1/2 years ago. Abought 2 years ago I backed it out of the garage and it said updating chanels and then went dead and said to call a number for subscription info. I figured it was dead so I loaded up the 6 disk in dash and went abought my way. A month later I was flipping threw modes and the darned thing worked again and has ever sence. I wont be paying to renew it if it dies again.

I did the same thing in '09 when mine ran out. I got it with the new truck and it was okay but having an iPod, a Zune, and around 55,000 MP3's that I've acquired over the years there just wasn't a need for it when I have a ton of music already.
