If you can carry it legally, pick a weapon comfortable on your body and keep it there. Remember, a .22 mag in the hand is worth a dozen .45's under the dash! If you can't carry legal cause you live in a state of "gun control" politicians then pick a good hiding place in your ride. Because if you can see it from your drivers seat, odds are that other eyes will too. Otherwise that traffic stop for a burned out tailight will turn into an arrest for concealed carry. Yeah I know," better judged by 12 than carried by 6". But lets see if thats how you feel in the back of a black and white!......................... Freedom First

Yep did that in Tennessee some years ago. Lost the piece, paid $500 fine, got treated like a criminal.
Might also remember that it is agains federal law to have one near a school regardless of where it is, big no-no. Technically if you were stopped going past a school and one is found, big problems.

Actually, this isn't always the case. I can't speak for states other than Texas because I'm not familiar with their laws, but in Texas, I believe that the new CHL Penal Code allows a CHL holder to be armed in your vehicle on school grounds as long as it's just the parking lot. This allows people to pick up their children from school without breaking any laws. However, once you get out of your vehicle, you have to be unarmed. I can't find the exact place in the Penal Code where this is located right now, but it's in there somewhere.

I don't believe that it is the case here but will check on it for sure. That would be good but there have been arrests here for a student with a bread knife in his car, just laying on the floor.

Here in Utah a Concealed Carry Permit holder can take his gun onto school grounds even into the school.
There are even some teachers who went and got a permit and now carry.
Most of the uneducated don't agree with the policy and are pressing the lawmakers to make it illegal, and a few private institutions have already banned all guns on their campuses.
My opinion is thus:
Would the outcome at Colombine been different if a few teachers had been carrying? Most likely yes.
The only places in Utah where you can't carry a legally concealed weapon is State courthouses, Federal courthouses and Post Offices.
Also, the Concealed Carry Permit only concerns firearms.
Knives don't count, bricks don't count, big sticks don't count.
Since you have to be 21 to get a CCP, that rules out students in all grades prior to college.
IMHO, lawfully carried guns should be permitted everywhere (except maybe courthouses),
it's the unlawfully carried gun that we need to be concerned about.
The law breaker isn't going to care if guns are permitted or not.
It would be much better for everyone if there were a few lawfully concealed guns to take care of that one unlawfully carried one.
Criminals will be much less likely to attempt anything if they knew anyone around them might be carrying.
Would you rob a bank if you thought that little old lady in line behind you might be packing? the guy who just left the teller in front of you? or even everyone else in the bank? didn't think so.

I've mounted an old belt holster to my console, right by my leg, when I get in, it goes there, when I get out, it goes into my shoulder holster along with the 2 extra clips. Also keep a 38 in my tool box at the shop and a 25 in my desk drawer. I've had my unrestricted permit since I was 18, so I can carry any handgun without any trouble, even if I don't own it. A gun is useless if you can't get to it in time

These kids would not have cared, and they were very well armed - much more than some art teacher carrying a .25 in her purse could have handled. They were actually hoping for some resistence and didn't get it.
Any teacher that tried to stop them would probably have become an additional target. Most of the victims at Columbine were killed before anyone had a real idea of what was going on - long before they knew how many shooters there were, or where the shooters were in the building. That's why law enforcement was so helpless. If the Sheriff's department couldn't stop them, what chance would a teacher have had?
Sorry to get so far off topic, but I knew 2 of the responding officers and one of the victims in the Columbine school. Still stings to hear about it.
Just FYI, in Colorado, CCW permits do allow carrying in schools, unless a sign is posted specifically denying that right. In almost all schools, those signs are posted and carrying is illegal because of it - including Columbine.

They were expecting resistance from the police, but a lowly teacher might have been able to use surprise to their advantage.
"Cower" under a desk playing helpless, then surprise! stop one or more of them.
I know the likelyhood of that happening is slim, but it might of helped.
I don't know if I'd have the presence of mind to think clearly in a situation like that, and I hope I never find out, but I take a little comfort knowing that I might be able to prevent more bloodshed than if I wasn't carrying.

I'm sorry but I keep seeing all the post about Colombine. It was very bad that it happened and kids died for no good reason, but now adays, it would be good for (certain) teachers to have guns on their person. Maybe if grandma teacher had huddled under her desk in fear and come up from the bottom and capped one or two it would have changed the outcome. I know that to look in a kids eyes and squeeze the trigure would be hell, as I have pulled my gun on, what I did not know was a kid, the first thing that goes thru your mind is OH GOD what do I do, I hesitated, he threw his hands up and backed off, But those kids where packing, it would have been a hard decision, but I think I would have been able to pop a cap. When I was a kid in school, the teachers could AND would spank *us and then call home and tell our parents what we did, we'd get another whooping. Don't blame that on the kids, but blame it on the parents, the city, the county, the state, the U.S. Government, the ACLU, and all the other NO GOOD WORTHLESS people that think that a time out and no butt whoopins is the best way to raise a kid(now Billy, you'll have a 10 minute time out before you can use your 30.06) cut me a freaking break, my momma beat me with a broom stick, and she is only 4' 2" tall, and daddy would drag my butt out of bed many a night to whoop it after he came home from work. I've been to too many peoples houses where their "kids" act up, and when they say "if you don't be good you'll get a time out" I look at Kat and say Time to go, because my time out would be right between the eyes with about 30-40 minutes of "sleepy time". Sorry but I went to the OLD school, and I ain't that OLD, just feel that way
