you wouldn't happen to know the officers name would ya, can't believe ya got busted in my neck of the woods!!! LOL the county cops are gettin a big chunk of $$ for the hours they spend runnin radar on the big road around here, & believe me they really like $$, cuz they stay out on the interstate all they can, I know about all the state/county boys around here, one of my buddy's uncle is a washington co. deputy, & he'll call & find out where he's sitting & then rumble by about 90 & scare the crap outta him!!! LOL it's funny, & one time his uncle pulled out behind him on the interstate & he just kept blowing smoke on the cop car & wouldn't let him over & the uncle called & screamed for him to move, cuz he was chasin the car in front of him!!! must be nice, cuz he'd write me up in a heartbeat! not real sure about lawyers towards abingdon, but I can pretty much guarantee your not gonna get out of it, not around here, but good luck anyway, Dusty

Never just plead GUILTY. Please fill out the back of the ticket for NOT GUILTY and let them set a trial date. Call the District Attorney's office for that Court and ask for a reduction to equipment violation or parking violation.
do not even think of 'dismissed in the interest of Justice' as most States have on the books. and please be reasonable with your request, knowing that 200 bucks now CAN save you immense hassle as described by the DTR guys above( insurance, Court, DMV points build up, etc.). You can also send in your written account of what was going on.
Please do NOT talk about the cop or whatever, this is a different sandbox to play in- just the facts and what you did or did not do/see.

Judges want to clear their cases, States want their money.
Biggest tick off to me, personally, is when someone thinks they are going to play Hollywood lawyer or someone who claims total innocence.
Even the minimum amount can be assessed as a fine with no penalty if that is better for you. Sometimes people have different priorities BUT everyone should know what is at stake and what they can ask for- hence my humble advice: Call the DA after you CRR (certified return receipt)mail in the not Guilty plea. They are the ones that will make the deal, it is up to you to make it fit right. Don't Speed??? naw...........................
Good info. Thanks!

I always hear people at work getting mad at cops for setting up speed traps, or hiding somewhere so if your speeding you wont see them until its too late. But I dont see anything wrong with that, if you dont want a ticket, then dont speed, plain and simple. If you speed and get caught, pay up, you were driving, you were speeding, its your fault. Take responsibility for your actions.

I hope this dont start a war...just voicing my opinion.
No one is trying to duck accontability. Everyone speeds, sometimes you get caugt. Bottom line, it is foolish to just pay a ticket. Insurance rapes you for 3 years or so. We were rolling with the flow, not reckless, but got nabbed. It happens. It could have been me, I didn't drive there. I'm sure I would have deserved one while I drove most of the way home, but we elected to stay the heck out of VA going home.....did the TN, NC route where the radar detecter can run. Course, had they gotten me last night, I was going to spend the night in the clink, not get off easy with a ticket.......needless to say, we beat the record going home vs the way there.

Anyway, good info, thanks for those resposes based on reality.

On the TS perf races, I only took one picture with my cell phone. I'll see what I can do with it but it's not that great. It was of the diesel rail dragsters.

I grew up in central Va. and still have family in Lynchburg. I can tell you from experience you will not be able to get out of the ticket, but Va. is not a CARRY OVER state. Which means they do not report your violation to another state unless you don't pay and they revoke your license and even then all they report is your suspension for failure to pay.
When I moved to SC, I had a couple of points on my license, and was able to start fresh when trading license from VA to SC.

Apparently Idaho dosen't care about getting their money. I got a speeding ticket the beginning of last October and went to get a court date and they scheduled me for the middle of February because that was the next date that cop was scheduled to be in court 2 weeks before the court date i got a letter in the mail saying that the cop decided to take a vacation that week and i needed to reschedule. So i called the court house and the next available date was the end of this month more than 8 months since i got the ticket. I'm interested to see if this one works out

Dodgezilla,

Do ya still have that Road Runner?
I've still got my '68 Super Bee from years back and uncover it every now and again for a little weekend jaunt. Old Mopars in the Northern Virginia area are few and far between.

I grew up 30 minutes outside of Abingdon and my best friends dad is a lawyer up there. I might be able to help you out a little.

Ok, Here is some good advice...just trust me I know. Find out the Prosecutor's phone # and call them tell them that the fine is okay as long as it doesn't go on your license and you don't want any points. See if that works first. Courts just want to make sure that they get the money and that you aren't trying to hide from the court system. If VA is anything like KY they will accomidate just because it is a relief not having to go get a warrant for your arrest. Make sure once you have got that all taken care of wait a day or so and call the court house to make sure that all of it was taken care of so you don't get a warrant for failure to appear judges hate that...The prosecutor is who you need to work with hopefully the county isn't a bunch of sticklers when it comes to traffic citations...good luck
