Speed Traps

I have noticed in California there are many more speed traps around town. I think Arnold is trying to get money anyway he can. If you want to check out speed traps in your home town try this web site.

Also read this may save you some BIG BUCKS

If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph. Every state except New York, Hawaii, and Maryland, and the D.C. has this law. In California, the "Move-over" law became operative on January 1, 2010. http://www.moveoveramerica.com/ A friend's son got a ticket for this recently. A police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. He slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. He had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you are to move into the far lane.

The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license and a mandatory court appearance. Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law. It is true (see details at the following web address). http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/moveover.asp

Eat your heart out - - that doesn't help stupidity - - there are still way too many morons out there trying to hit you. How can these people even pass a driving test? Surely it is evident during the test.

Bob,don't know about Fla.,BUT here in Calif.either "they" are given a d/l or their legal arm sues for discrimination.I am still trying to figure out why when approaching a red light, cars stop 1/2 block back from the intersection and then move up slowly to the intersection (or vehicle in front of them) when the light turn yellow for opposing traffic. And when our light goes green, there is a drag race up to 25 in the 35 zone.

While I think the fine was a bit steep, I fully support the law. We may make a joke about youtube videos, but LEOs take very real risks.

I not only pull to the other lane, but if I am on a 2 lane, I hit my hazards to hopefully alert other drivers.

It is a sad thing to see Officers getting hurt out there trying to keep us safe for sure but these video's of people's stupidity make you wonder what these morons are thinking about. Where has the responsibility of driving gone?
Driving a 4 or 5 thousand pound vehicle isn't a right it is a privilege and those who cause harm need to loose this privilege for a long time.

I challenge you to find the definition and legal description of a speed trap in California, then come back and tell me how many there really are.

We have speed traps here to.There's one not to far from here. The town is about a mile and half from the highway, the only thing thats on the highway is a bank. The speed limit goes from 55 to 35 for about an eighth of a mile then back to 55. Its almost a sure bet barney is there and you will get caught. If thats not a trap I dont know what is.

This is not just happening in California. I travel all over the Rocky Mountains and every state has the troopers out "generating revenue". The local municipalities are doing it to. Everywhere I travel I am having to watch my speedo more than the road ahead and the traffic around me.

Our politicians have gotten us into such a debt mess that they are trying to grab funds in anyway possible to meet the spending mandates they have set up. The officers are caught up in this, and if they want to keep their jobs, they better be producing a "positive cash flow". No new taxes eh? More lies from our elected representatives.

We got em all over Ohio, Woodville is known all over for it. Rt 20, 4 lane road goes from 55, to 50, to 25 in abt 500 ft, and they love to sit and pull ya over, to make it even better, there is a school zone in there, too.

Anyone seen "America's Worst Drivers" on the travel channel? If not, make sure you catch an episode, it will make you look like the best driver in the world compared to these people. It's kind of a game show where people drive thru town and get docked for doing things wrong, then they have to go thru an obstacle course. Some of the stuff these people do simply amazes me. And at the end the loser of the game has to blow up their own vehicle.

I used to work for different US states working in lane closures doing in road scale maintenance. I can tell you, there is nothing more terrifying than watching a Subaru doing 360's IN YOUR LANE CLOSURE at 75 mph. I more than once almost Hershey squirted my shorts getting out of the way of errant cars, empty cases of beer been thrown at us, paint ball guns being shot at us, etc. Slowing down for lane closures is the common thing to do, but allot of people don't want to slow down at all. We used to be able to park our trucks in the lane closure to use them as crash trucks, but the state of Oregon did the math and it was cheaper for them to pay out our family than it was to pay out the family's of people who came into our lane closure and hit the attenuator vehicle.

Speed traps I don't agree with, but slowing down for road workers, I have no problem with.

I can almost relate to those folks frustration in wanting to do this.
Now I said almost relate. It angers me to no end to have to drive into Dallas and they close one of the 2 already massively crowded lanes during rush hr and open it back up after rush hr!!!
Of course it's not the fault of the guys on the road but rather the moron who planned the project. I would love to take a paint ball gun after those guys!!!!

So you mean Oregon DOT won't pay for an attenuator truck, or you're not allowed to park a vehicle behind you to protect you from oncoming traffic?
I never used attenuator trucks for lane or road closures. I always used the largest piece of equipment we had that was not in use and parked it on both ends of the work area.
Had a lady run into a crane (behind the barricades of course), guy run through a pickup and into a manlift with 2 men in it, going the wrong way on a closed highway, semi hit a scraper, driver seriously injured, tired to sue us for having it parked in the road......ROAD WAS CLOSED.

When I did roadside repair we had a guy go out on a call, and the truck was in a terrible spot, on a 3 lane turnpike. He called hwy patrol and asked for someone to sit behind him with their lights on. He was told it's not their job. My buddy told the guy on the phone "well it is your job to scrape me up off the road, so thats what you may have to look forward to tonight" and he hung up

Worked fatal crash scenes where we requested DOT to bring out some berriers so we could reroute traffic for the investigation and free up patrols.
Got turned down because they didn't want to waste their time getting the berriers out and set up for a couple hours, just to have to put them right back. Guess they don't like using berriers for their own people either, eh?
