Wow, Scott - - thanks for posting this for us. Brings one to the reality of the horror of death by fire and so many times it is the young ones who cannot get out.

That was sent to me by my cousin Will. He was the Chief of the Ipswich FD for many years and 1/2 the current department is made up of my relatives. I don't know who produced it but I thought it was done very well.

The only thing worse than people dying due to lack of personel or equipment is when you find out the local govt had the funds but spent the money on stupid stuff.

The reality of it all is simple. Hero when your working a job all the way to zero when you are done with the job. Bottom line, people DO NOT care, they only care when THEY need you. Lay them off we don't need them, that will never happen to me, lower my taxes, they don't do anything anyway all they do is sit around and watch tv all day. I could go on and on.

My city browned out a station a few years back, we opposed it, the night of one of the brown outs a triple decker got going the next street over and 3 kids died. All in an effort to bolster the cities free cash account. What is a human life worth? It all depends on who's it is. Just ask a politician. Same thing happened in a neighboring city, funny how fast they reopened the stations.

I have read where people have said fire fighters & cops & EMT's aren't heros because they are just doing what they get paid to do. Yes they get paid in the city to do what they do. Not so much in a all volunteer fire dept like we have where I live. How many civilians would risk their own life to save another? How many are willing to live with the tragedy of when things go terribly wrong. My hats off to all that protect & serve weather it be fire fighters, Leo's, EMT's, Coast guard, or our armed services & lets not forget our search & rescue folks.

Timely post as I was notified today of a mandatory meeting tomorrow, suspecting news of eliminating our positions....
