someone took my owner's manual...

Well, it was my fault, my truck was accidentally left unlocked for 12 hours sitting in my front yard and someone must have checked the doors. They took the owners manual and about $60.00 in loonies and toonies. They left a brand new Milwaukee job site radio, $1,400.00 in tools, my Insight gauge package and a pair of $150.00 sunglasses. I don't care about the money, but they took my manual that has ALL the maintenance I've EVER done to this truck (plus it had this really nice dodge carrying case). I just ordered a new one (surprisingly it was only $30.00), but all my written records are gone.

Why would they take the owner's manual?

because most people keep registration and insurance in the owners manual and the thieves use it for identy theft. keep an eye on your stuff. they will most likely use your information to steal another car.

Us Canucks do it a bit different up here. My insurance is part of my registration and its in my wallet. I'm thinking that my Saskberia neighbor does the same or similar.

That sucks man. Nothing worse than a thief. A buddy of mine just had his truck broken into. They left a snowboard in the back seat, never touched the stereo system but they snagged his wallet from the center console.

What are loonies and toonies (must be a Canadian thing, eh?)

My registration/insurance papers are in my truck in a carrying case right beside the loonies and toonies. They never touched them.

For our US friends, loonies are $1.00 coins with a imprint of a Loon on them. Toonies are $2.00 coins, with a imprint of a polar bear on on them, I guess toonie sounds better than "polar bearies", but no relation to the dingle berries.

Loonies and Twonies is what I thought it was eh.
Theres still talk of a five dollar coin. We could call it a Bobby instead of a Fiver.

I think more coffee is required before I post more.

I never leave my papers or my wallet etc in the truck. I had to learn the hard way once.

Weird what people take. I left my truck unlocked one night and somebody went through it. Left all my gas monitors, coveralls, safety gear and took all the change out of my consol and my phone that I left in to charge by mistake. Found my phone about 5 blocks from here next to a dumpster. Somebody at a Dr s office found it and held on to it until I called it. Weird stuff.

I grew up in an area where if you didn't lock it, you didn't keep it. I don't know if they still do it but some companies used to put the key code in the booklet somewhere. With that code, you can get a new key. Mercedes doesn't let that happen. When I went to get a spare key for my SL roadster, I had to go to the dealer only. Nobody else can make a key for an M-B car. I had to take my registration and my drivers license to the dealer. Mercedes then made the key and overnight shipped it from Hamburg Germany.

I also ran a salvage yard on the Kentucky border from 1980 to 84. Kentucky didn't have titles until 1984 and we had a lot of trouble with chop shops around here. Guys would steal the registration and plates from a car and steal one similar. Computers didn't keep track of cars then like they do now. With bills of sale only, it was easy to wash a title several times and then it was nearly impossible to find.

They can conceal what they took and walk away not appearing to be hauling anything off......less obvious. Packing the bigger stuff would weigh them down and hinder their "innocence" walking down the street.

Take a walk and check the bushes and dumpsters around your neighborhood, they may have ditched the manual after realizing there was nothing worthwhile in it.

The id info is worth way more to a fencer of such stuff than the hock shop things like the radio and tools.

They are laser cut I believe and the remotes can usually only be programmed by the dealer because the key has to make the dash cluster and the ECU. I know for audi keys are north of 350.

A guy I work with had his truck broken into at Bristol Motor Speedway a few weeks ago. He had $400 in the truck, they took $160. Left his GPS, pulled is Glock 19 out from in under the seat, took it out of its holster and left it laying on the floorboard.

They did the hole punch routine under the door handle. This is the entry method the JimmiJammer lock plate is supposed to prevent.
