So the wife said those words that make a man sit up and pay attention . . .
I would be very suspicious! She wants something and she's been doing the research. She knows you don't want a new truck....heck, you've probably mentioned it more than once. She knows how much a new truck would cost and how much would be saved if you just fixed up the current one.
She is banking on you to start thinking like this:
You've been assimilated!!
How long you been married?

maybe take her on a nice vacation this summer or something to celebrate all the money you're saving by not buying a new truck

How long you been married?

Thanks for the responses. After reading your thoughts, talking with the previous owner (who traded for a 2002 Dodge Cummins and would take the '97 back in a flash) and thinking it over I've decided to keep it. It's paid for, in good shape, easy to work on, electrically uncomplicated, does everything required of it and, again, it's paid for.
Turns out the wife was seduced by the leather seats in my '86 Riviera she'd been driving last week while I was out of town with her Civic. Soooo - we'll just search around for a set of leather buckets for the pickup. There must be some out there somewhere. Probably an easy swap and cheaper than a new pickup.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on the subject.
Oh yeah, been married 42 years.

a few weeks back a super deal popped on a 2003 CTD 6sp ($9,900). really have been wanting a manual tranny. so I went and test drove the 2003.
yep it was a really nice truck! but quickly come to conclusion, my 97 12v was a better truck. since I'd have to sell my 97, if I got the 2003.
passed on the 2003 knowing I made the right choice!

To the OP, you should be able to find a good upholstry shop that could rebuild your seat(s) if you can't find replacements.

Now way I would trade my 97 for anything else, except a low mileage southern 97.......
