Well I just made a heck of a deal... gonna bring home my newest little toy this weekend. 1958 Forward Control 4x4 Jeep (CF-150). She's no oil burner but with only 22K (total) on the clock with the factory F head motor, and she runs like a champ. All glass in tact too.

I'd never even seen one before today, so odd looking I just had to have it. Really oughta get a few heads to turn when i get her back on the road. She's begging for a lot of TLC, a little welding and some new paint to bring her back to factory(ish) specs. Then the fun will begin...yet another toy to bomb!

Best of all... total cost, short of a promise not to sell her off.. ZERO!

Gonna try to do a bit of photo documentation of the restoration project. Should be fun.

Dave

They were real popular in New York years ago. Most of them were silver or gray.

Shovelhead - something like that well pretty close anyhows and short of the all the FD stuff...

Haulin - sorry to disappoint you, but thinking along the lines of some grey fading to black paint scheme... thats quite a ways down the road though!

Really an odd duck, gonna be fun taking her from a rust bucket to cool. Built on the original CJ5 frame...so anything is possible, I'm thinking leaving things close to stock/dressed up a little or maybe a light mudder/rock crawler. Already got an extra tranny, xfer case, and door glass and anything else I want/need from a '59 *****'s donor with the deal.

I'll try to get some pics this weekend to post.

BTW anyone having a garage sale this weekend? I really need another garage and FAST!

Daker I was not encouraging you to leave it silver, just that most of them I saw were. They are a blast to drive, front vision is great off road. Lets see now, a 4bt, HX35, 4 inch exhaust, yeah.....

Funny you should mention that... you have no idea how present that notion has been tugging at my brain all day... But it'll hold until i get the chasis pulled off and torn down. The factory motor only has 22K on it, but it's rapidly approaching 50 years old, i'll give her a real good going through and see. Although I do know where there is a an old diesel Benz with a strong motor/drivetrain setting.

This will be the first 'F' head I've played with so at worst it'll be entertaining/educational to goof with for a while. But to put a 4 popping oil burner in there would be just way too cool. If I could only remember where I planted that $$$ tree.

My neighbor used to own one similar to that and drove it around for years. Seemed to be a pretty bullet-proof machine.
