So I had a seizure two nights ago

I was in bed with my girlfriend and we both had woken up and got out of bed at around 2 when a huge storm rolled in and ran outside to grab some things. We then laid in bed and talked about how loud the storm was for a few minutes. My next full memory is being in the hospital in my underwear wondering "what the hell!" She then went on to tell me that at around 4 I was on the ground shaking/grinding my teeth/chomping my teeth and that my eyes were rolled back into my head. This is freaking me out I am going to a neuro for another MRI on monday and to figure out what caused this. I'm only 25 am athletic and have competed in pro rodeo for a living for the past 8 years. I dont know how this could be happening. I have racked up 12 concusions through the years ranging from 1-3 on severity and also did get 3rd degree burns from my heel to my knee in January I am wondering if any of these things contributed to what happened to me.

I'm sorry to be typing so much but I am really scarred right now to sleep alone as the gf is on vacation right now (yes while I laid in the hospital I had to convince her to not cancel her vacation she planned to leave on that morning) and I was told by the doc not to be alone at all, right now my brother has had to step up and do things like stand outside the shower to make sure this doesnt happen again.

This is so nerve racking does anyone else have any experience with seizures?

I am also looking for good gift ideas that say thank you for saving my life twice this year and for sticking through this tough year with me. Any ideas?

Twelve (12) concussions!!!

The best gift you can give your GF is to not have any more head injuries!

Football players have had to cut their careers short because of 3 or 4 concussions.

Take care of yourself.

I will venture to say your rodeo days are done. Damage from multiple concussion can be cumulative. There is light at the end of the tunnel, there is medication to control and limit seizures, and in some cases prevent them altogether.

I wish you best and a speedy recovery.

The concussions are probably a contributing factor but not even the doctors will be able to tell you for sure.

My wife was in her early 40s and one night woke me up having a grand mal siezure. I took her into the emergancy room and they conducted all kinds of tests and even after all these years they still don't know why she now has siezures. She had only a single minor head injury (don't recall that there was a concussion) in her late 20s. She has been on anti siezure medication for years now and very, very rarely has a siezure.

Don't panic, don't jump to conclusions and don't be scared. Altho experiencing a seizure and waking up afterward can be extremely frightening, now is not the time to panic and fill yourself with anxiety, (which can cause a seizure).

Almost anything can cause or contribute to seizure activity. High or low blood sugar, a tumor, ANY injury, or electrolyte imbalances are just a few of the common causes. Some diseases such as encephalitis and bacterial meningitis can cause seizures as well.

There are also all different kinds of seizures as well, and you may well have been experiencing them for some time without knowing or realizing it. For example, seizures may vary from the briefest lapses of attention or muscle jerks, to severe and prolonged convulsions. They may also vary in frequency, from less than one a year to several per day.

So try to keep things in perspective until your doctors make a determination. Rely on whoever you need to help you out. You seem like a pretty decent individual and I'm sure you've done your share to help them in the past. If not, you will... what goes around, comes around!

Hope this helps.

My wife has seizures and there is medicine to contol them. Currently she takes Dilantin which does a great job keeping them under control. My main concern with her was her driving our 2 boys around and going into a seizure and killing herself and possibly the boys. I hate thinking about that but it worries me. In Ar you lose your license for 1 year if you have a seizure. Be sure to take whatever medicine they give you whether you think you need it or not.

I have no experiences with what you are going through but hope and pray for the best. Hopefully is not anything major and you can work through it.

Ask your doctor about Syncope episodes. My wife has them. We havent really figured out what triggers them, but it seems like most of the time it's when she hasn't ate well for the day and has been on her feet alot.

She had an episode similar to what your saying a few years ago. I had to call 911 because she wasn't able to respond to me like she usually can when she has one. They have done lots of tests but they can't really do anything. One thing with them is if they are not monitoring you while you have one they can't see what your brain is doing to help you out.

Thanks all for the advice, help and prayers. It means alot. This has been a nerve wrecking last few days. I go in to the neurologist tomorrow for more tests to try and figure this out. My girlfriend says I have been doing this on a less severe level for awhile (hands clinching, arms jerking, loud breathing etc...) all of which only happens in my sleep

I promised her I would not drive until cleared to do so, and that I would not be my stubborn self with the doctors about this one. and man I am missing my truck and other toys! I'm praying for a good doc appointment tomorrow.

And yes I did retire from rodeo this year (another promise I had made to her) there will be no more concussions, I really miss all the travel though, now just working with young horses and took a regular job as a project manager for a construction company.

As far as the thank you gift I wanted to give her I went and bought a relatively simple pearl necklace and am thinking about leaving it in the bedroom with flowers and a card when she gets back from San Diego Wednesday. That and I've been cleaning the heck out of the house.

Caburnside, first, let me say I'll be praying for some type of solid diagnosis so you can get started with your recovery. Having as many brain injuries as you have had, you may be needing to rethink how you participate in the rodeo business from here on out. I'd also like to remind you that not driving is not only a good idea in the short run but may be illegal for you shortly. In some states, doctors are required to report persons coming in for treatment of seizure related disorders to their state DMV. Your license may already be on it's way to being temporarily suspended for medical reasons. If you have a lawyer friend I'd take the time to ask so you don't get a nasty surprise on the side of the road one night.

Thank you for the prayers, I know they will be reporting the incident to the DMV or whatever and that unless a neurologist signs off on me then my license will wind up suspended for six months. So hoping we can get the diagnosis figured out and get everything back to normal. As far as rodeo like I said I am out of it now, didnt resign with any of my sponsors and have moved on to a job in the real world.

I am truly taking this seriously as I have no memory of the incident but my girlfriend was and is scared crazy about what was going on. I have never seen her so worried about something. I owe it to her to do everything I can to get this cured or under control as quickly as possible.
