smoking samurai

I went and bought this suzuki samurai for a thousand dollars...
it smokes, but not a typical blue oil smoke, more of a lingering white smoke.
What causes an engine to smoke white?
I haven't had a chance to run it down the road yet because the front brakes are also shot

burning anti-freeze is my guess........

most likely a blown head gasket leaking coolant into the cylinders.

I would pull the motor, drop in a small block, fabricate a custom 4- link and wheel the **** out of it.

Kind of a shame... the thing is all origional, with no rust. it looks like it has never been off road. the small things like the stock undercoating on the bottom of the frame. the stock factory shocks complete with undercoating overspray. Around these parts it is very tough to find a samurai that hasn't been "wheeled" let alone one that is rust free.
at least the price was right...

Was the 1,000 Canadian? I think you got hosed real bad, but I am willing to drive up there in about a month and take it off your hands for you. I won't even charge you to haul it off. I've been kind of looking for one too. I want to basically use it like an ATV. Yes, I know it won't go all the places a 4-wheeler go's but I think it would make a good play-toy and parts runner. I think you got a good buy and you should have fun with it.

actually the thousand was us. (1330 cad) by the time all expenses were in it worked out to $1600 cad (fuel to drive down, extra insurance, lunch etc...)
I want to use it for a family hunting buggy It sure will be an improvement over beating the truck and camper through the bush.

I had a Samurai. It had 250,000 on it. And four new head gas gaskets. I drove it kinda hard off road. Something about driving the thing through water, mud everything else was too much to resist. My vote would be for the head gasket.

Have fun with it

well a little update... the brakes grinding were the result of someone puting the brake pad in backwards... with the metal side toward the rotor I changed the brakes anyway the rotor was already scored...
It's always a treat trying to discover the silly little things that are wrong with a vehicle.
