Unfortunately, you'd just wind up supporting the idiot's family (and lawyer) in style for now-on.

My idea is like the ending in "Vanishing Point" (Speed control by Caterpillar).

Im a jerk...sometimes when i see someone coming up fast in the rear view mirror on the interstate, I will find someone going just a little bit slower than me and pass them as sloooooowly as possible..just to make the guy behind me slow down... I have to say I am prejudice though...if its a dodge coming up in my mirror, I make sure to be nice and let them go on by...

Or get right beside them, and not let the other person through, which I admit is rude, but people need to learn to slow down and enjoy life. So what if you get somewhere a couple of minutes before me, as long as its not life threating, we all arrive at the same place. I've done my share of fast driving, and got that all out of my system. Well, almost

You're darn right it's rude! Nothing gets to me quicker than two vehicles running down the road on a 2 lane interstate side by side and blocking traffic. Truckers sometimes do this because they don't have the oomph to pass one another on the downhill and don't want to lose momentum on the uphill. So on they go for miles and miles. The other is the people who drive with cruise control on and don't care that they're setting right beside some other fool doing the same thing.

On U.S. 400 east of Wichita there is a lot of hills and it's two lanes with a few passing zones of 3 lanes to get around trucks and what not. Occasionally some jerk will start around a truck and piddle around until the entire passing lane is used up thereby preventing anyone else from getting around the truck.

It's one thing to occasionally block the fool who thinks he should be allowed to run 90 in a 65 zone. It's quite another to selfishly block traffic because you can't be bothered to turn off your cruise control and get the HECK out of the way!

I try to stay out of the way. I make allowances for truckers who just can't drive as fast as cars but when you're a jerk, and you know who you are, driving to fast or two slow and blocking traffic then you deserve to be in that special part of HECK reserved for selfish jerks and the sooner the better.

and it's just as bad...the fools who DON"T use the cruise control.

Nothing is more annoying on a long trip, than to have some jerk come up behind you as you are passing someone legally, and they flash their lights cuz you aren't going fast enough for them. You finish passing, and get out of their way. Then, 5 miles up the road, the same jerk is going slow enough you now have to pass him to maintain speed, but as you do so legally, he realizes he slowed down and speeds up, not allowing you to pass.

I had one jerk do that over 12 times in a 75 mile stretch of I-95 one time.

I know the car had cruise control...it was a freakin $ 80,000 mercedes

Wow, I never speed or do stupid things in parking lots.

Nah, never mind... Come on Edwin, how are you supposed to learn how to do a J-turn in one of these trucks without some parking lot practice?

(How do you do a J-turn in these trucks without oversteer, anyways? Haven't figured that one out yet. Too hard on residential streets without driving into oncoming traffic. )

And, of course, I'm guilty of the irregular speeds on the freeway... And the swerving across 5 lanes of traffic to get to the right turn... And the two-positioned accelerator bit...

But I try to make sure there aren't any people around when I'm doing any of the above, unless I'm showing off. Which, you know, isn't often or anything.
(On another note, why do my rear tires have 1/16 inch of tread left while my fronts have 1/4 inch?)

But this is only half the story... You set your cruise at 3 to 5 over the limit, cruise with traffic and the four wheelers are totally teed off because you are holding up traffic. Sorry gents, I can not afford to get the tickets on my record. If that means holding up traffic a while as I pass a slower truck, so be it. If I am maintaining the speed limit, I let the traffic worry about not being able to do 10 or 15 over. If that makes me a jerk, then so be it.

It seems that the speed limits are for trucks only most of the time. Another misnomer is that the truck can't keep the speed, most of them are throttled back to save fuel and tickets. But why is it that a car has to pass a truck regardless of the speed? On a trip, slow it down to near the speed limit, everyone will be safer and happier.

Hey I am not naive, on a trip you can speed up to behind the next truck and then creep around him, find another target ahead, run 80 to catch him and then do the same again. Radar likes the bigger target. But don't cuss the truck for trying to maintain a fuel saving, speed where he won't get a ticket. A trucks driving record is his living, not the cars. All pushing a truck and flashing lights does is make the truck mad, then you go slow for a while. Want a courteous truck be courtous to him also.

I make allowances for trucks. Most of the drivers are courteous and are usually expert drivers. The same goes for 4-wheelers also. It's the occasional Jerk that really gets me teed off. Those who drive 5 mph under the limit and don't give a darn about other people on the road.

My dad was a truck driver for 30 years and my brother did it for 10. I have nothing but respect for truckers and I know what they have to endure from the rest of the jerks out there. I pull an RV occasionally and when a 4-wheeler cuts me off in traffic with little regard for whether I can stop before I cream his stupid --- I fully understand what it's like.

Sorry if I sounded like I was attacking truckers but they have their share of jerks too.

I agree..
My girlfriends dad is a trucker, and he has driven over the road most of his life, and he gets so angry when he talks about how disrespectful other drivers can be against trucks...I also have nothing but respect for truck drivers...If i see a guy riding in a truck's blindspot on the interstate, I will tailgate that guy till he gets out of the way because that is one of my girlfriend's dad's most hated things...

That is a constant problem. The car is afraid of the truck so pulls up by the trailer wheels and sits there, afraid to go ahead and pass and I guess he feels he could hit the brakes if the truck swerves. but the trucker sees him there and spends more time looking in the mirror than ahead. Watching the mirror he becomes unsmooth in driving and scares the car more. There is a cure for it and the car will always think the truck is a "jerk" as you said. You move the truck over six inches and sit there for a minute, then another six inches, then another until he moves. Half the time he floors it and shoots past, and half he backs off scared to death.

The key here is no fast moves, just slowly moving over till the car does something. That is also how you get into another lane when the cars will not let you. The most dangerous place on the highway is sitting there next to truck tires. I lost two caps last week. Once watched a cap unwind into a Buich windshield from another truck. I am not talking about recaps either, never use them, good tires come apart. That truck pushing you out of the lane next to the truck may be saving your life.

Want to really make a car mad, just do the same thing to them, back off in the lane beside them and keep your front bumper next to his rear bumper. They can't handle the situation either.

Comment was made that there are jerk truck drivers also, sure is. And more and more of them as the laws become more repressive.

I used to live in LA and I have pity for the poor truckers who need to change lanes in traffic. They have to start moving over miles ahead of time because the jerks won't let them over. Everybody thinks they have to be ahead of the truck but don't stop to think he'd rather be somewhere else than dinking around with a bunch of idiots.

Whenever I see a trucker with his turn signal on I usually run interference for him so he can get over. They are always grateful. More than once have I seen a car sideswipe a big truck because he didn't see it??? Makes no sense to me. Somebody who refuses to let a truck over needs to be run off the road. To bad it isn't legal. It should be.

When I come up on a truck I put the hammer down to get around him...Not my wife though, she'll ride right behind em for miles. They put so much gravel on the highways here in the winter it sounds like a hail storm on the windshield if you get stuck behind em.
