Thumbs down Skunked... Again

Both of my dogs, a lab and a pitbull, have been sprayed by skunks in the past month.

I'm about sick and tired of this for real!!!!!

I've got them sleeping in the basement for now, give'em their dish soap, peroxide, and baking soda baths.

What else to do?

Sounds like the smell doesn't phase them. Too bad there wasn't a skunk/porcupine mix, cause I have a feeling mine's going to encounter the same problems.

Get used to it bud...my pits are always getting into some mess, whether it be getting sprayed or demolishing a possum.

I use oatmeal with peroxide and baking soda, then stagger that between normal baths.

No doubt man. They are idiots.

By the way, how are you puppies doing?

I think if I remember correctly Mythbusters used tomato juice. But I think they tried everything to get sprayed by a skunk, but it would not spray them so they did their tests with man made skunk. Might want to give it a try......

I was going to say either tomato juice or vinegar, can't remember which.

On edit: scratch that, look here. You're going to need a few more ingredients.

I have always used Tomato juice and paste.

I had a mut that got sprayed and decided to come in the house and run under my bed.I was fit to be tied.It stunk to the high heaven.

I have had a skunk in my back yard for the past few mornings, the first mornin my husband was working out @3 a.m. he opened the side door of the garage and seen the skunks hiney up in the air pointed right at him,and hurried up and shut that door. That was too funny.

Saw one the other day, went into the houe to grab the rifle and couldn't relocate him. Went out abouit 6 yesterday and let the dogs out of the pen. Turned around to see a porcupine coming up the drivway. Called the dogs back before they saw him. Went in and grabbed the 30-30. When I came back out he was standing on my wood trailer. I spooked him off and popped him with a round.

I have a pit that will kill just about anything running across the ground, rabbits are her main issue. She has also gotten 4 or 5 birds right out of the sky that we know of.

I would say try to get rid of the skunks, these dogs are hard headed.

I wish I could shoot them, but I live in the city.

My whole yard is fenced in though. I'm gonna have to find out where they are coming in at.

Get yourself sprayed by a skunk, then you won't notice the dogs.

Glad I could help.

Best advice yet.

Maybe that will get me outta work too.

The baking soda, peroxide, and dish soap works pretty well as far as the smell.

How do you get rid of skunks without shooting them?
