The situation in Iraq

As mentioned before, there was NO PLAN for the occupation. There was also no imperative, no time pressure, so there was plenty of time for planning. Also, Desert Storm went off better than most campaigns of that size. There was comprehensive planning, and one of the largest international military coalition since WWII, or maybe Korea. The US suffered 157 dead in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, of which 35 were friendly fire.

As previously posted - No plan. One has to wonder why the US rushed in like they did, with no credible intelligence to suggest that there was an immediate threat, much less the one that was put together by Bush as justification. Even Powell was pulling material out of the speech before he delivered it to the UN. It especially doesn't make sense when Bin Laden was still being hunted, and yet special ops troops with Mideast language skills were pulled out of Afghanistan and deployed to Iraq. The one reason that I haven't seen anyone state, I guess because no one would think that he could be that low, is that Bush diverted attention to Iraq because his polls were slipping as Bin Laden couldn't be found. History will tell all.

In March 2003, days before the start of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, American war planners and intelligence officials met at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina to review the Bush administration's plans to oust Saddam Hussein and implant democracy in Iraq.
Near the end of his presentation, an Army lieutenant colonel who was giving a briefing showed a slide describing the Pentagon's plans for rebuilding Iraq after the war, known in the planners' parlance as Phase 4-C. He was uncomfortable with his material - and for good reason.
The slide said: "To Be Provided."

Like I said "empty statement".
The offensive in Afghanistan was essentially over when we went to Iraq. OBL was not the big fish anymore. The rats had to go someplace, and Iraq was the obvious destination. No doubt but Saddam and his crazy sons and all their blood money and their hatred for everything and everyone western was where they would go. No other country in the Middle East was crazy enough to take them. It was better to do it there and then, not give them another ten years to rebuild like we did before.
A lot of folks need to wake up to today and forget about the past. We have a job at hand that will change the future and the world for the better. If you don't believe this, you need to get your sorry rear-end out of this country and quit living "The Good Life" and go elsewhere and live under suppression with very few freedoms. Go some place like Iraq used to be with no TV, radio, internet, etc.
'nuff said.............I'm outta this thread.

Not that I take it personal, but I do not recall ever calling myself, or thinking of myself as either a liberal or a "demo", as a matter of fact I am a registered republican and have voted so always except this time. But why????? John Kerry told more lies during his campaign than most people can tell in half a lifetime.
I did not loose, not to mention that it is not about winning or loosing [our debate that is] but about integrity, honesty, telling the nation the real situation. But many, far too many of our soldiers did loose their lives, and many many more limbs and other body parts. Why don't you dwell on that for a while... Wussy this is WAR, people die, more people die by drowning in their own drunken puke in a year than have died in this war.
"Perhaps you should re-read the post and try to understand it, if anything I only have praise for the military, I mean those who really put it on the line. As for serving in it, it was among the first things that I offered to do when I came here." Well I have tried to come to understand your point by rereading the post three times and it seems to me that you are just angry that people you have never met nor ever will meet any of their family and feel their pain have died. Your crying because a thousand people died doing a service for you. I have more respect for those men and women than you can ever imagine. Three of my best friends serve in the military and two have seen combat in Iraq and Afganistan the closer of my friends who has seen combat saw one of his friends in his unit get killed four feet from him in live fire training in basic. I haven't served in our military and it isn't exactly tops on my list of fun things to do, but all my country has to do is ask me and I will gladly stop going to college and join the military. The people and their families knew what the risks were and the majority of them are ready and willing to accept their fates in battle.
And I will tellyou this also: The Man can NOT walk on water. There have been and there are serious mistakes made, and not because it is this or any administration, they were and are made by human beings, it would be the mark of true leadership to aknowledge them and having learned from them make the necessary "adjustments." Denial and name calling hardly serve anything, well maybe one's ego.

MCMLV "For some reason the main point of my post is missed. It is not the fact that there are problems with equpiment or supplies, that happens even in the best planed circumstances. It is the simple fact that the bad planing that went into this war, continues to this day, and that instead of reasurances that changes are implemented to better the situation, Rumsfeld gives a retarded answer that 'even if you put all the armor in the world on a tank it can still be destryoed' Again it is the attitude, the care, that I am talking about. I don't think that one has to be an 'arm chair general' all you have to do is pull your head out of wherever it is stuck so that fresh air can bring some lucidity you your thoughts."
Wake up man, he has every right to be curt with this low ranking soldier. He is the boss and you don't talk to the boss like that. Especially if some punk lowlife reporter puts you up to it. I agree that all the journalists should be pulled out of combat and restaioned at the rear. Or even better ship them out of Iraq. Send them to kuwait where they can't harm anyone but themselves.
