Ruger 10/22 semi automatic.
Yep I got it.......
10/22 Ruger with sportster model, checkered stock etc.
had a 3 x 9 scope mounted and bore sighted as well.
Punched 5 holes on a pop can when I got home just to try it. Seemed to run good.
Now just get 'er sighted in and let the fun begin!

I agree with Hub, just get a cheap 4x scope and you should be good to go.. No more gof's diggin in your yard.. God I miss that.. I have yet to find a gof anywhere in this flat Hurracane prone state. Lots of other critters to shoot, just not the same as hittin a gof at 75 yards in the head.....
I see he went and got one with a inexpensive scope. He should be good to go.
Tool,
Run a bunch types of ammo through it... clean it good and run some more. Remember that .22 ammo is very dirty and inconsistant, unless you buy competition type ammo. 10/22's can become finiky with what type of ammo it likes. Cheap Federal ammo is always made mine short cycle and stovepipe, it is just way too inconsistant from shell to shell.

I have had a 10/22 for 9 years now and it is a fun plinker and a simple setup. Their is all kinds of aftermarket goodies for the 10/22 also if you want to upgrade it into target type acuracy later on.
I am also a fan of the 17HMR I have a target 17 that will repeatedly drill a golfball at 200yds. The 17 will take a gophers head clean off, and will kill crows at 100yds without any problem with very little noise.
I think either choice would be great for what you want to do.

I'd say that is my biggest complaint, feels pretty heavy and creepy.
At 50-75 yards I can really feel and notice it pull me 3/4" to the down and right.

I was given mine in 1970. It still shoots great. Cleaning out the original magazine is a pain though.
I don't think the shot shell will cycle the action and I'd be wary of loading them into the mag. I've had mine about 10 yrs, went the whole custom route when I first got it. Heavy barrel, light trigger laminate thumbhole stock Nikon 4.5X20 etc. It is a great shooter but there is something lost in all the weight and "stuff" added. I am thinking about the henry love the looks and have only heard good stuff about them. And there made in Brooklyn, NY. I think they say not to take your factory mags apart, but I have done it many times to clean them and it really seems to help reliability. be safe, support the NRA, and enjoy.
