i've had a 10/22 for 6 or 8 years. I'm not to impressed with it. but i do have a 50 round clip.... and i may have gotten the barrel a little too hot once or twice. but still my savage .17 will out shoot it any day of the week (obviously) only problem is the price of ammo on the .17 vs the .22.

i wouldnt buy the ruger, go with a .17 or a .204

i have had my 10/22 for 4 years now and for just shooting rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional raccoon it is a great gun. i put a 3-9X12 scope on it sighted for 150 yds. along with a 25 round clip. when things get hairy though there is always the .223

Hang on to that one! Incase you did not know you cannot buy an international stock from Ruger witout providing them the broken one. They will not sell an international stock like they will the others. Last time I checked the International stock alone was $172 by itself, not including the endcap.

A buddy of mine bought one a few years ago from a guy we work with for 100 bucks with a bushnell scope on it. Man I was mad he got that smoking deal.

Yes Henry's are very fun to shoot. I have one with a large loop and love to plink with it, just ask the snakes down at the river.

Another .22 I have that is just amazing to shoot is a CZ452 Trainer Special. It's is super accurate and with the Brooks trigger kit is has about 2.5lbs of trigger pull and virtually no creep. They are becoming more expensive. I got mine for $185 and I think they are running around $235 if you can find one. Shooting CB Long's in it makes for good starling sniping. Has less sound than an airgun.

Didn't know that about the stock.

Here's a pic of the International with the Steyr Mannlicher.

love my 10/22 i got the stainless/synthetic. if you want the mack daddy varmit rifle go with the .17HMR or the .17 mach 2. the mach 2 is just a modded 10/22. is is bada$$ not to expensive. you could kill deer with the HMR! but the ammo is getting a little out there, just like everything else except my paycheck.

MikeyB... Man I live the looks of those. I guess I should just plop down the cash to get me a Mannlicher Stocked Rifle because they are so sexy.

I looked at Ruger's site and they are still exchange only items and they have gone up in price. $180 for Brich and $215 for Laminated, which is what my buddy got. Man I am so jealous, a 10/22 International Laminated stainless for 100 bucks.

Thanks for all the input guys I really appreciate it.

One thing, I was out Skeet shooting at my gun club tonight and the old fellow who os an avid gopher hunter (IE shoots 10,000 gophere per year +) said a 10/22 was not the gun to buy and to in fact stay away from semi auto.

I know his oppionion is unbiased and very experienced yet everybody I talk to says great gun for the money......

Hmm decisions descisions.

This fella days to stya away from semi .22 and just buy a bolt action. Like I said earlier, I'm not struck on semi in .22 cal but I don't have one, I do have a bolt so what the heck???

I'm still thinking try one, they seem reasonably priced to me.

I hate to tell you but I paid $150 for the 10/22 w/scope. Bought it off of a buddy of mine about 5 years ago.

The Steyr was a gift. BTW, the replacement stock for the Steyr is around $700 the last time I checked. It's a sweet shooting .270. Can't see it but the Steyr has the European double set triggers.

Your buddy at the gun club is telling you that because the bolt action is steader and comes back quicker from recoil. He shoots 10k gof a year he's not playin around. He is thinkin in those terms. He is not wrong, however if you just want to cap the gof's arouund your place the 10/22 will work just fine. I would hate to be in your buddy's cross hairs if shoots that many gof's a year.....

Yes and he is also a gun smith, a bunch of guys started talking about 200 yard targets with .22's and my eyes started to glaze over.

Yes I want it to be reasonably accurate but I'm only thing a MAXIMUM of 100 yards.

I have been popping gophers off my back deck with a cheapo Walmart .177 Cal 500 FPS air rifle, so we are not talking about an elusive animal! hahaha

I've also found 12 Gauge and target loads to be very effective on gophers. (saves on ammo because you can get a family at a time)

I just want a little more range, something in the 100 yard range and reliable would be good.

Some of the gun nuts at the club think you need to spend $500+ on a .22 to get something that is "good".......

I don't see the need.

I have no problems knocking squirrels and blue jays off of the deer feeders at 75-100 yards with the 10/22.

No need for a scope that costs more than your rifle...

If money is a issue then just get you a Marlin Model 60. Plain Jane ones are about 100 bucks and they run cheap ammo though them all day long. Reliable and pretty accurate. I only have 3 of those, Model 60, 6082,and 6084. All are them same actions and the tube lengths are the same on the 3 I have. The plain blued ones used to 99 bucks at walmart but i think they are 129 now. Academy sports sells them as well.

Marlin Model 60 is a good rifle, I have a variation the Glenfield Golden 50. at 100 yrds, the gophers are in trouble with it.

The ruger is ragged hole at 100 yrds, the Marlin may have an oddball or two.

If you think your going to need a string of fire longer than about 15 rounds, go with the ruger. the tubular magazine is a bit slower to reload.
