We "throw away" many perfectly good, but illegal to use for rigging straps. I keep a collection of them and pass them out as Xmas gifts to my buddies!
(If OSHA asks, they were cut in half and thrown away!)
You must of misplaced my mailing address for Christmas this year...

For pulling cars and pickups out of snow banks use a tug em strap. It allows a much stronger pull with no damage. Use a chain and clevis to attach it if needed. For slow pulling with a tractor or something the chain is better.

I've used a strap for many years and have pulled out rigs that were a lot heavier than mine where there was almost no traction.

I used a strap when I towed out the flatbed tow truck a few weeks ago, then last week, we had some ice, and I could barely pull out a ford explorer. I didn't have my ****** strap though, so I was forced to use a chain and try a steady pull on the ice....fail.

I have always been curious about that. I always thought it was a bad idea to attach anything to the axle when towing someone out....but at the same time, a lot of cars these days don't have tow hooks anymore, making it difficult to pull someone.

I have 2-30K lb 25ft slings (one with loop ends and one with hook ends) and 1-15k lb 6ft sling that I keep in my truck. All were made locally by a sling and cable manufacturer. I also keep a log chain and a few clevises in my truck too. over the years I've used a sling or strap more than I've used a chain to pull out a stuck vehicle.
