Wsm's Rule!
I'm not a ballistics expert by any means, but its hard to beat these cartridges head to head in like calibers. I went with a Savage 110 Weather Warrior in 300WSM. I put a Simmons 44Mag on top due to budget restraints, but it gets the job done for me. I did a fair amount of online research and face to face with shop owners and "fanatical shooters", (we have a few of those in the Corps, LOL) before I bought. While the gun isn't much cosmetically, it is the soundest operating system in the mainstream market and you can't beat a stainless/syn combo for durability. Savage has the best trigger on the market, period. I've got $800 in the combo out the door with the first box of ammo, not bad really. Now don't let anyone fool you, the recoil is a whole new level compared to the .06's and .270's. It will rock your world. They only hold 3, but if you're going to take a 400+ shot, you'd better not need more than one. if you have any doubt, go to federal's website and compare the ballistics, I don't think you'll disagree.

If you can see it, chances are it'll reach it, but its up to you to hit it.I use a 17HMR and a 223 for the long range varmits around where I live. Dad prefers his Browing BAR in 300 Win. Mag. for his long range work.
