Ride a motorcycle across Texas in mid December, snow?
got an event that i really don't want to attend,
but it might be worth going, if i could ride my scooter
(in other words, i like my scooter, better than I like the people i am going to see)
going to take I-20 from columbia SC skrate out to dallas.
accuweather shows temps of: 33 low, 45 ave, 55 high around mid Dec.
cold aint that bad, but rain & snow are a real joy-kill.
opinions on weather?

Some years you could get away with it.
The best advice I can give is watch the long term weather reports and be prepared to spend and extra day or two ether in route or after you get here.

There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!
mmmm if the last two years is any indication it'll be a cold butt icy winter.
You'll really need to watch for sleet. That'll be pretty nasty if you're riding. It's snowed the last two years as well. We due for a mild winter but the area has already had frost.
Honestly I wouldn't count on the weather being nice enough to ride. This isn't just from a cold-blooded Texan, but from a rider who lived in northern Japan where it averages 12'snow/year. I think you'd be taking a pretty good chance. The weather changes very fast here in N.Texas.
Go for it if you must but don't say I didn't tell ya so

We have done that four times john, NY to DFW.....
and you know about the 20 degree rule? air temp - 55 mph exposure = 20 degrees colder. add moisture, wind and you now know how to dress for the ride. hypothermia affects reactions, yada yada...
just what they say- weather forecasts are one thing. immediate weather checks with Doppler radar on the internet is needed....yay smart phones!
my worry, from experience, would be mississippi/louisiana crossing to texas as those states really do have some fast, nasty storms blow up. we have had slick patches on the highways in DFW to San antonio area every time as well.
Downtown DFW is bad for water/ice buildup just from condensation and high traffic...
so it won't be the whole trip miserable, but you will find those "change yer pants" roads or traffic moments that happen fast, blindly. road experience, pack well, planned stops every 150 miles, etc... and slower speed than you operate when in familiar territory.
love my ol harley; love riding my harley- love it better arriving alive.
visit DTR friends along the way...do dit doooo

What they all said. It can be very pleasant one day here and an ice storm the next in Dec-Feb. Watch the long term weather, ypu can get our local weather on WFAA.com. Too dang cold for my tastes though that time of year usually.

I think I can... I think...
I saw a piece last week that NOAA weather is predicting a dry weather for North Central (Dallas) Texas. Could be a good yr for it. We've had a couple of cold nasty winters........if you bet the odds we're due a warm dry one.
