Cool Retirment

This sexy senior is about to retire.

I have worked most all my life since about the age of 12. Am 70.5 now.
I would guess that some of you are retired. What does it feel like?
I'll be able to roll over, not roll out at the crack of dawn.
Know I won't sit at the computer all day, drinking coffee and playing computer games.
We are looking at about a 30' 5er as 12k in the GVWR we can tow.
Wife wants to be where it is warm and dry Looking at New Mexico, or Arazona.
Probly have a home base down there and be full times.

Any advice would be most welcome.
Don't have the retirement date yet, will find out Feb 8th.

Davey

Just wanted to say congratulations! I am only 48 and have several more years of hard work left to do but I would just say do what you wanna do when the mood strikes! RVing is a great life in my opinion. (I am a full time RVer). Lots of beautiful country to see here in the USA!

Congratulations! Although I'm no where near the age to retire, we just went to a huge RV show here in Peoria, AZ (Phoenix). I suggest you go to one to see what they all to offer. Real nice stuff. Seems like $30K is a price point where there's TONS, not too much under, but a few a lot more. Your truck will pull it real well. Enjoy!

Lary, you've been retired a lot longer than 10 years. You were just drawing a bigger paycheck prior to the official notification.

Good for you! I'm a self employed computer consultant and I FT in a 30' 5th wheel. I bought my 89 CTD to pull it with. I'm planning on moving to Goldfield, NV and doing work in Las Vegas.

AZ is nice and so is southern TX. I don't know about New Mexico. If I were going to AZ I'd look into Casa Grande which is about midway between Tucson and Phoenix. In fact, I may do winters there if Goldfield is to cold.

Living in KS right now and 19 degrees is just to D*** cold! My dodge don't care though I got it plugged in. :-)

Enjoy!

Edwin

Congratulations, Davey!!!! I'm 54, and will be retiring from my current job (teaching) at the end of this school year. I had planned to teach longer, but circumstances (lack of funding for public schools in Michigan, family concerns) have decided for me that now is the time to pull the plug. My wife and I will be moving from here (Leelanau County, MI) to the Grand Rapids area so that we will be able to help out my mother, who has cancer.

We have a 30' fifth wheel and look forward to traveling more than we have been able to. I'll be looking for another job when we get to Grand Rapids as I am too young to be "entirely" retired and I am looking forward to doing something out of the classroom. Maybe I'll get a blue vest and practice saying, "Welcome to Wal Mart!!!"

Have a great time whatever you decide to do!

I retired at 55 - - couldn't stand it and drove the wife nuts. Went back to work as a consultant working about 60% of the time - - lots of traveling involved. So, wifey decided she would do the same and worked as consultant for the same company. A nice big fat heart attack made me rethink my life situation. Lots of things I promised myself I was going to do, but never got around to it - - well, when they pull the plug it's too late. Told the company to get me someone to train for them to take my place, I'm out of here. Now I love it. Learned to try and live every day to its fullest, have fun with the CFO (wifey), hug my kids and grandkids, enjoy the birds and the sun and the flowers and travelling in our fiver. I have a whole new attitude about having nothing to do - - I always have something cooking somewhere and enjoy every one of them. Life is gooooood. You do likewise.

While laying in the hospital wondering whether I would ever smell the fresh air again, I was not worrying about not working enough - - I was worrying about the last time I told my wife and kids I loved them. I was kicking myself for not doing all the fun things I had promised myself and my wife we were going to do, but had put them off.

Just go do it. Have fun - - enjoy. We have our trips planned for the next three years. Yeh. Can't wait.

Congratulations Davey! I have got a long way to go to be in your position. I like my job, but I love my free time a WHOLE lot more. I wish I could retire today, but at my age of 38.
