Re:Remembering the good old days (daze?)
The boats were 165 ft long and 21 ft wide. Aluminum and fiberglass construction. Had twin diesels for crusing and a marine version of the old J-79 jet engine for get up and go. The turbine came in two versions, 16,500 and 22,500 horsepower. 0 to 45+ mph in less than a minute, turn in twice it's own length, and had GUNS, lots of them. A rapid fire (100 rounds per minute) 76mm cannon, a 40mm Bofors, 81mm mortar, four twin .50 cals, and 4 twin 20mm. It was a "gun bunny's" heaven.<br>In rough seas, we drew flight pay and sub pay.
