Have you reinstalled the drivers for your sound card?
Top is right turn off the system and unplug it,pull the card and reinstall it and a new hardware found will pop up after you boot up the computer,if it dont, try windows update,it may find that you need a driver and then download it.

You didn't mention which operating system you have. If it's windows ME.
1 Go to control panel
2 Click on systems
3 Click on device manager tab
4 Scroll down and highlight sound control
5 Click on remove
6 Re boot your computer
Important. Before you do this, do you have the little speaker Icon located near the time in your tray?
Alan
EDIT: You might want to send me an email before you proceed.

I'd bet your trying to use the Windows generic drivers. These don't work on some system OR your Windows CD may be before they came out with the drivers for your system. First, try going to the windows update site and see if it shows drivers for your system, if it does, your in luck. If not, go to the website for the manufacturer of your system. Get the drivers from there.
PM me if you need more help. I do this coutless times a day at school, I work in the computer center at my university.
