If it shows what you expect, (like you had 256M and added 512 it should read -- too many for my fingers, wife ain't there to help me ) you are all set.

If not it depends on your computer, but usually you have either not installed the modules correctly-(no added memory shows up) or the bios needs an update (like when installing 512 extra and seeing only 256 extra)

HTH

Was a 256mb, added 1Gb( two 512mb modules)........now showing 1280MB memory, so it sounds like I am good to go!!

The only other thing that you can do Chris is to update your virtual memory settings. It might make things move a little faster as far as switching from screen. not sure which Windows you are running, but you can right click on My Computer, go to the advanced tab, then probably performance or virtual memory depending on model, go into settings, then advanced again. Should have a paging file size listed there. Click the change button and you'll get a screen that lists an initial size and a maximum size. Change the initial to 1.5 times your memory. 1280x1.5=1920 and the maximum to 3 times the size (3840) This keeps windows from trying to manage that and only increasing it just enough to keep it going.

Kinda like turning up the fuel on one of our trucks. You don't really need it all the time, but when you do it's nice to have.

You got the memory on the computer done. Have 2 questions.
1. How do you upgrade the memory between the ears? I haven't figgered out how to do that.
2. How do you get the white out off the screen?

What about enabling Dual Channel Ram in the bios, you are missing out on a lot of Ram Speed if this is disabled.

If his machine only had 256 to start out with, I doubt it's set up for dual-channel RAM anyway.
