Question for Austin, Texas Members
I hear you Rusty. We want a place that is big enough for me to hunt on. I have been finding some really good buys in the East Texas area. We sold 100 acres we owned last year down by Rocksprings because we just didn't want to retire to rocks! We lived in Victoria when I was a kid and it was a nice place. If you don't mind me asking what did you have to give per acre? That is another area we would be interested in. We don't intend to go fulltime RVing so we want a small place to come back to when we get tired of traveling for a while.
Well, we bought a 1.71 acre corner lot in Mission Oaks, so the price-per-acre was pretty darned high! We wanted a place large enough to put a separate RV barn/shop/RV hookup for visitors along with the house, yet not so large that yard maintenance would be a hassle. Our plans sound like yours - go out in the RV for 3-4 months at a stretch, yet still have a bricks-and-sticks place to come home to.
If you're looking for a larger place suitable for hunting, there's still lots of really nice wooded ranchland in that area if you can find someone who wants to parcel it out.

Thanks for the info. Rusty. We really like the Brownwood/Coleman area. We came really close to buying a 40 acre place with a 3/2 mobile home on it in Cross Plains about a year ago. We are really glad we changed our minds, it burned when the wildfires hit Cross Plains a couple of weeks ago. We are still a few years off but we would like to find something a couple of years before we retire to get everything setup the way we want it. I am like you in the fact I want a covered slab to park the trailer under with hookups for it like we have now. By the way, we both really like the Mobile Suites 5th wheels and may look a lot harder at them for our retirement travels. Our Cruiser is 32' long and is fine for what we use it for now but we would like something in the 34' to 36' range for longer stays.

What about Wimberley? What kind of drive is it from Wimberley to Austin?
Say I lived in Wimberley and, worst case scenario, I was assigned to a project in Round Rock. Mapquest says that is about a one hour drive. Anybody ever driven that during rush hour??
Appears to be about the same drive as Spicewood.
