Question for Austin, Texas Members

If a person were to live in Georgetown and commute to Austin for work, approximately how long of a drive would that be?

Hoss, I figure you'll have to define WHERE in Austin...

Yeah, you'll have to be specific as to where in Austin if you want to get a realistic number. Remember, they still have I-35 down there and it's just as bad as it is up here. Now once you define where, I still won't be able to help because that's the extent of my Austin knowledge.

That's hard to say. Since I'm in construction, I move from project to project. We're trying to relocate down to the Austin area so we're researching where to live. We want to be "out" a bit, but I also don't want to have to drive an hour each way to get to work and back. I have friends and family in Cedar Park, but I've been in Cedar Park during rush hour and it doesn't appeal to me.

Take Cedar Park traffic and you have Austin rush.. If your project is in the Round Rock area, then Georgetown will be OK. Any further in to Austin and you're going to hate every day on the road.

I would also depend on the time of day. 2:00 AM wouldn't be bad. A lot of construction in Round Rock right now.

Hope your clutch pedal isn't too hard to hold in or your left leg is going to be disproportionately larger than the right...

Any other suggestions??

It can't be TOO much worse than my current drive to work. It takes me approximately 55 minutes to go about 25 miles right now. My goal is to be NEAR the city, but OUT of the city/suburbs (if possible).

I-35 going into Austin seems to be a pretty good highway (3-4 lanes I think). Does it not flow well?

My sister lives in RoundRock. Nice area, but the traffic sucks.

Take a Monday off and go stay in a hotel Sunday night in RoundRock and make the drive to downtown on Monday morning.

Is traffic into Austin no matter which direction you're coming from?? In other words, if you lived south or east of Austin could it be better?

Many times I-35 becomes a 4-lane linear parking lot filled with very restless customers highly dissatisfied with their view of the car parked ahead of them.

You're not really giving me a warm fuzzy about moving to Austin.

Take CROBTEX's suggestion...

Also, you being an Aggie, aren't you going to be a stranger in a strange land?
