If your wanting to run Windows programs on a MAC, you can ... but it cost a few bucks.

* Parallels cost about $80, (this program splits your hard drive in half)
* then you need a windows OS of Xp pro with SP2 or better. What this ? About another $200+ ?
* then you can install any windows program designed for a 64 bit system, (will not run a 32 bit program).
* add in the virus protection and your good to go.

I bought a MAC about 4 months ago and found all this out at the MAC store. You need to determine if the money is worth it.

Been a PC owner since the get go and because of work had one until the last one screwed up. (no one could figure it out to repair) My friend convinced me to try MAC. He gets a new one every 10 years because he wants one, not needs one.

Since I've had this, the only issue I've had ... was time I had to spend away from it fixing the screw ups on my wife PC. I will never go back to PC again, and she's thinking about changing.

Also, they say with a MAC you need not worry about virus. But the guy at MAC said it is possible to have this issue in the future. He recommended Sophos Anti-Virus software. (www.sophos.com) It's a good program and free. I've seen it recommended on the Apple site. Those with MACs should check it out.

My old Toshiba laptop is turning 9 this week. I bought it for my birthday 9 yrs ago. I have never ever had a problem with this unit.
Having said that, we are getting a MAC by this fall and this Toshiba will be running automotive diagnostic software and only a few other programs out in the shop.

Yup - Asking Mac or PC is like asking which oil you should use. You just got a lot of opinions and we know about opinions. They are like armpits. Everyone has them and they usually stink.

Yeah, but my opinion is the only one that matters, in my opinion.

If mac supports booting from USB, load from an external HDD or flash drive.

and I bet this box is almost as fast as you are. lets see, following Moore's law, that would put you roughly 1/64th the speed and power of today. or something to the effect of my phone. 400 mhz processor with 256 mb of ram and 8 gig of flash drive.

Scott,

Just flip a coin...

Heads - get a mac,

Tails - don't get PC.

Honestly, for a few bucks more I would get a Sager (http://www.sagernotebook.com/).

You can customize them so if you need more RAM, a better processor, more hard drive(s) or hard drive space, or a second video card, you can pick and choose the options you need versus the cookie cutter designs like Dell, HP, etc.

I'm planning on getting one of these myself, even though my two year old HP dv5 has been pretty good I need something with a bit more power.
