Pulling codes on a Jeep
Pulling codes on a Jeep
The CEL is on in my 2000 Jeep XJ. Just wondering if there is any way to pull the codes without a reader(like the key trick on our truck)? It runs fine but I would like to see why the light is on.
All Chrysler products that I know of, as long as they have a dig. odometer can do the key trick. If not, try the auto parts store, most will pull codes for ya, I know Advance will even print em all out for ya.
I tried the key thing and I couldn't get it to work, maybe it's a different cycle than our trucks? I've got to run to town today so I'll just have to drop by a parts store. Thanks.
For XJ Info
I don't think that trick works on the 2000's. I know it doesn't on my '98 XJ. I am pretty sure it only works on pre-ODBII XJ's. For all the info you'll ever need when working on your XJ, try http://www.naxja.org/ -- great source of info!
Yeah, I did a little reading and figured out that it won't show codes on the odometer. I started it up the next morning and the CEL was off, took it to a friend of mine that has a scan tool and it didn't show any codes, active or stored, so I'm not real sure whats up with it. It still runs great, guess I'll just wait til it does it again and go from there.
Thanks for the link, I forgot about that website.
