Price For A SB Chevy?
Price For A SB Chevy?
I have a Small Block 327 that I've had in my possession for years now. I want to get rid of the thing, I have no use for it. A guy at work is interested but I don't know what to sell it for? Maybe someone can chime in here.
I have the 327 block (just cleaned and mag checked)
crank (needs a new balancer)
pistons
push rods
camel hump heads? (they need to be cleaned and thoroughly gone through)
What's all this scrap metal worth?

Are the heads original to the engine? If they are the original 202 heads then it was most likely a 280-300hp engine. I am actually going to a car show with some friends, I will ask one of them what he would sell it for. He is a classic car specialist.
I will get back to you tonight with what he says.

If the block is the only thing that has been checked then about $1000.00 for the block, heads and crank, providing the heads and crank are still serviceable. If you have new internals then the price would go up from there.
Holy biscuits. $1000? I was thinking about $300. lol
The block is in great shape. I was told it is a small journal block?
The heads looked like they haven't been touched in many many years. I 'd say they would need to be completely reconditioned. When I had the block getting cleaned & mag checked I brought the crank in and they said it needs a new balancer to be back in shape. Two of the pistons were dropped when I was carrying them, so they are probably junk.
I have no other internals for the engine, just what I mentioned above.
Is there a way to check what a block came out of? I was told it was in a old Vette at once, we then took it out of a 68' Nova about 7 years ago and it's been sitting since, disassembled.

You can research the casting numbers at the site above to see what application(s) the parts may have been used for.

Unless it is a somewhat rare 69 327 it is a small journal.
Look on the front pad for the stamping, casting numbers will only get you so far in ID ing what it came out of.
Chances are it is a 300 Hp out of an Impala, but you never know, especially since you are missing so much of what would ID it as a Vette/High HP engine.

Get the casting number from the heads. That will tell us a lot about the engine. They are not as rare as people think. They were used in trucks till 68 and any big body car till 69. One thing to look at is if the crank is tapped for a balancer bolt. Some of the older ones were not, JUNK. IMO 100 for any 327 without the internals, with cast camel humps and not a 2x4 is worth the same as a 350 in the same shape. Camel humps are good heads but are used now for resto more then hotrodding. I run 71 camel humps on my S-10 and have a little over 800 just in machine work. Purchase price was 75 and I have an easy 50 hours porting and polishing them. I could have bought Iron Eagles for 800 and they would flow almost as much out of the box.
