Poll Time: which service provider??
Poll Time: which service provider??
Allright guys n' galls poll time, which service provider do you all prefer. D-TV, Dish Net or Cable. Keep in mind Hi-Def & DVR very important. I have cable right now with those options, but IM sick of the outages. Ready to make a move. Who are you guys most happy with.
Had Dish for almost 10 years, only had 2 outages during that time, very heavy snow related.
Have DirecTV now, happy so far.
HD-TV, you'd be better off with Cable,
both DirecTV and Dish are still a ways away from local HD content,
DirecTV being closer to providing it, maybe sometime this year if everything goes according to plan.
Switched to DirecTV due to Dish's opinions regarding current customers as opposed to potential customers,
and the fact that they had Tivo based DVR's.

My vote went for cable. I get my high speed internet and cable tv from the same company for $50 a month. I rarely have problems with outages, and when I do, it is only for a couple hours.
Dish network for a couple of years here. The only time ours has ever flickered is during a very bad rain storm with hail and winds approaching 40-50mph. All it did was flicker, grab another satellite signal, and we never had another problem. I'm enjoying it.
Direct-Tv
We have outages when a big storm comes through, but only because of the dish not being high enought to reach totally above the trees. Plus i like the free XM radio station you can get too.

We just switched from DishNetwork to DirectTV when we moved last Aug....
so far I like it better, getting the local channels is a big plus...and their basic package offered more than Dish did....
Ditto what Phox said about their attitude towards customers..."we gotcha so who cares????"

I turned my back on cable several years ago, and never looked back. DirecTV with the Boston spot beam, and TiVo. I love my TiVo! Record 2 programs at once while watching a pre-recorded third. Do that with a VCR!
Don't let the cable company sway you with rain related disruptions. It happens to me maybe twice a summer, and it lasts as long at the thunderstorm does. My cable service use to go out everytime a tree limb fell on the wires, and many times was out for hours. It drives me crazy when the cable commercials pull that card.

Would rather have dish or directv, but where I live we are limited on options. The only bad thing about living on a military base, if you get dish/directv you have to live in the houses not apartments and have to get approval from your housing manager. So, we just have cable. Don't mind it just there are times would rather have more channel options.
I've had Direct for over 10 yrs,I have never had a problem with their service that lasted over an hour. That was caused by driving rain or dust storms.
I travel with mine and the few times I have needed help the customer service reps were excellent.
TIVO is great, costs $5 a month extra, but when I was railroading I put it on auto and didn't miss a program....it can also record 2 channels at once!!!

Cable is the way to fly (as long as you have a good provider).
In a few weeks when I move I'll have HD digital cable, 10MBPs internet (with voynage) for about $100.00 a month total. If I had the chocie (which I did) I would not prefer to have any equipment hanging off my roof. Don't the satellites go out in heavy rain and snow?
Either way, have you ever seen some of the mouting configurations these fools come up with?? I've seen some real gems, like almost hitting your head on it when you walk in the front door (hung on fascia of small stoop roof)
CABLE One wire, infinte possibilities
