Polititions

yep, and not just voting on positions but having direct input on the issues that are important to each individule. It would be a movement that would put the people right with the concesus of the country and with that unity, pride, and hopefulness that can sustain us as a free and principled people in the challenges ahead. With that alone I see the begining of the end of insider trading in politics. The rest will come....sty

I agree with HAULIN, Voting on everything would only bog down the system with uninformed voters and also with the time it would take to get something accomplished. I was only talking about making individuals votes count for the elections of our politicians. And no the eastern coast would not rule everything, There are many people who vote and they are scattered to the 4 winds of our great nation. If the electoral college was removed and only our votes counted for elections then I think a lot more people would actually vote, as they would have a direct say as to who is elected not as determined by the beurocracy's interpretation.
As mentioned earlier even in a Monarchy and Dictatorship there is still greed, it just happens to be from only 1 person unless one of the underlings are trying to get the ruler bumped off.
In order to understand why majority rule does not work in government, you have to personally see mob rule in action. Mob rule has no intellegence, no consideration, no understanding of fact, they just push for and vote for what the next guy told them to do. Look at the idoits that belive what Ted Kennedy tell them. One or two accusers and mob action with no legal method of controlling it is a disaster. I have seen a few things in life that most have not.
I don't get the connection between mob rule and an informed constituancy at the voting booth? Enlisting modern communication media to encourage citizen involvement in current gov. affairs and judging elected officials performance by how well their voting record aligns with the will of those they represent, as determined by TV call in polls, web forum polls [like this] and school classroom polls, among others, is not being suggested as a new way of voting but a means of being a part of the proccess of governing. One that would hopefully make a begining in political accountability and that will, through involvement, affect change in the real voting boothes of the election of our representatives,

Follow the money, only this time look at the faces on the currency. Troublemakers and traitors every one! When forging this country they knew no republic since the time of rome had survived and this endever was a risky one at best. Later in ratifying the constution by 9 of 13 colonies they knew also that power and autonomy was being taken from the states in order to unite a people and birth a nation. But then ,thanks largely to Patrick Henry's whining, the bill of rights gave it back to the people! Now its up to the people, once again, if it be the will of the people, to unite and birth a change in their future. How that comes about I believe, is worthy of the effort of free and like minded people.

Hate to change the good exchanges here but where in NE PA are you from Rangerst. I am from Bradford county, went to school in the county seat even. As far as our govt goes I believe it is time for a new power\party. Some thing along the lines of "for the people by the people" You know, a group who will slap the extremists and tell them to stop yelling and screaming and talk like the rest of us. I believe in individual rights and accountability for all.
Rangerst, Look at how long elections for senetors and the president take. Could you imagine if all the laws, bills and referendams would take? If everyone was allowed to vote for each thing proposed, there would have to be advertisements for all this on TV, radio and newpapers for people to be able to know just what was proposed. This would have to go on for a set length of time to ensure everyone (or most everyone ) hears about it. then voting booths would have to be established and even if its on the internet (which not everyone has), It would take a great deal of money and effort to run this. Then on top of that you would have someone that would whine about " I think the votes from so-and-so weren't counted so redo it". With this type of rule what takes normally a week for things to pass or be vetoed would end up taking months. And somethings depending on how sensative they are may never happen, not because they should be vetoed but because this group or that group complaining about how it was voted on.
Voss, in the summer im in susquahanna cty between the susquehanna and the deleware rivers, back in the endless mtns. Got a public campground where we show free movies to the kids about freedom, liberty , honesty, courage and the making of the United States of America. The camp motto is be kind to each other and safety first! Got any big hardwood trees to get safely behind out in Vancouver?
Killfast1, I admit I am not skilled at networking communications but I see that its possible and happening! The polles would not be official ballots but something like the ones on DTR , american idol or perhaps a new tv show called Millionaire politition ?! Inviting uniffical consesus providing opportunity for unity [or division?] but sense of participation either way I think is a beginning to involving citizen accountability for their government. A government without input from the governed is not working well.
