I have taken the time to talk face to face with my Senators and Congressman on multiple occasions, beats the heck out of whining about the "Government" and taxes .

No taxes= no Emergency workers, Schools, or the fine people who are fighting to protect OUR freedom. No roads to drive your truck on, or fresh running water in your home.

The list is endless, but It never ceases to amaze me how people will whine about taxes as they TAKE all they can get in return. My experience has been, those who whine the most, are usually the ones who have given the least
Top, most of what you're citing lies at levels closer to the people, and is indisputably valuable and worth paying for. The federal level is a different story. I've sent e-mails to members of my congressional delegation before, and received in return form letters with spelling and grammar errors, leading me to the conclusion that not only do they not give a hoot what their constituents think, but that they are illiterate morons, as well. Judging by the way many of them vote, they couldn't reason their way out of a wet paper bag and have never heard of the Constitution they swear an oath to support and defend, much less have any idea what it says. And no, I didn't vote for a single one of them; I always vote Libertarian because they adhere to principles other than getting re-elected over and over again by spending my money to buy votes. The Cold War is over, and the Communists won--they're all running newspapers and networks in America and setting the national political agenda accordingly. I truly hope that there are sufficient numbers of those who still believe in the American dream to stop this process and return America to greatness, but I'm just not sure anymore.

Emails are the worst way to communicate with just about anybody. Only the staffer sees it and they return a general statement to you.

I go directly to their office and demand a one on one with them, I have yet to be refused a visit. I find that these officials want to try to do the right thing, but they hear very little from their constituents (US) in the way of advice.

These lobbyist with agendas to push, spare no expense to see these representatives, so they get heard. If you want to be heard, do as I do and get in their face.

I am not talking local level here, I have had little dealings at State level, my concerns are at the federal level. As a former Commander of a VFW and District Officer, I have taken the time to meet one on one with these people to discuss Veterans affairs as well as those that affect me on a personal basis.

You will find your Federal Representatives all have local offices in your State and you can make an appointment to see them.

Stand up and be heard, you can indeed make a difference

I have no problem with paying taxes becuase I agree with what Top says. I just wish there was a flat tax. I hate working any over time because we are so penalized for it. Anything over 60 hours is not worth working because they take so much out.

sorry for gettin of topic.

I WOULD MUCH RATHER SEE AN ACCROSS THE BOARD FEDERAL SALES TAX REPLACE ALL OF THE PAYROLL DEDUTIONS. PLACE NO TAX ON MEDICAL EXPENDATURES OR FOOD AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS FAIR GAME.
THE MORE A PERSON (OR COMPANY-CORPORATION) HAS TO SPEND THE MORE HE PAYS (NO LOOPHOLES). ALSO THIS TYPE TAXING WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE SOURCE OF INCOME, REGARDLESS OF HOW THE SPENDER GOT THE MONEY HE STILL PAYS TAX.

Good point but you left colleges and universities off of your list.

I operate mainly on e-mail; people soon learn that I rarely listen to voice mail and return calls, so if they want something from me they need to put it in writing. It's 2thousand-freakin'4, for crying out loud! Time to get with it.

Face to face would not be a good idea. Any sense of a lack of respect would set me off. I'm not one to suffer fools gladly.

All your representatives have people who do nothing but answer emails and letters, most never get seen by them as they get weeded out by flunkies who decide what they see, or don't see.

You can also call them on the phone, I even have an inner office Ph # my Republican Senator gave me, that rings through to his private secretary, avoiding the first line of defense, ... Now that impresses me!, the guy actually cares.

These people have a good deal more going for them than you may think, just very hard for them to please everybody at the same time.

Write those letters, and ask specific questions so they have to get involved it is worth the effort. Make a contribution to the party of your choice, that opens up doors quicker than anything

They aren't all bad. I think most of them get in a rut that I like to call the Napoleon curse. They start out on a noble cause, and along the way gain power. This power goes to their head and the original noble cause is replaced by more and more power, with them dishing it out.

I am sure that Roman Catholics will not agree with me but Napoleon was responsible for one of the greatest changes in Europe that was beneficial to the whole world, but in the end he was a vain Emperor, his noble causes forgotten, and had to be stopped. The great changes he made could not be done away with.

I think many politicians start this way, with causes, but along the way get taken with their own importance and lose sight of real life.

Started a reply a couple of times but decided this time to just bite my tongue. In any case I think most of you know where I stand and how I have been trying to get some of you motivated in saving your own country from the steady slide down hill, much of it thanks to the politicians YOU have elected. In any case y'all must be tired of me ranting about these things.

Stan, I never get tired of your perspective. If we could clone you a couple thousand times and move y'all across the border, maybe we could start to straighten out this mess...

Thanks for the compliment. Actually, as of an hour ago there may be a possibility that I may move back to the US for about 6 months. However, even if I did, as an alien there is nothing I could do further to the verbal kicking I have done so far.

If they send you to So Cal, look me up. I'm always open to share cool adult beverages with like minded people...
