Plasma TV buzzing???

Alright,

So I finally broke down this month and bought that 50" I have been looking at for the last 6 months....

Anyway, I know that some buzzing is normal with a plasma (like a fluorescent light), but if it keeps getting louder I'm not going to be able to stand it. I can hear it over the news even with the sound at a more than moderate level.

Any help from the home theater guys here? I'm at a loss!

You might need to have the cable guy come out and test your signal strength & check your connections. They can get old and corroded and cause noise.

Get r dun.

What are you getting the signal from. Often the noise comes from the cable box itself. Does it make the same noise if you watch a DVD? I would check the source first, then all of your connections. Bad signal connections will also cause a problem.

Hmmm,

I'm using HDMI cables, but I'm gonna go see what it does with the signal coming from the DVD player right now....

Nope,

No difference whether the signal is from the DVD player or the cable box. Like I said, I am aware that some buzzing is normal, but today it has gotten louder and out of hand.....

I've done a LOT of research on plasma tvs the last few days and am about ready to pull the trigger myself (probably today). One thing I noted was the buzzing on some models. In almost all cases - it was from the power supply and if you "clean-up" the power - the buzz will go away. In the cases where it didn't, the tv was replaced.

How do you like it though (not taking into account the buzzing )?

The picture is fantastic, but the current state of buzzing is quickly ruining the whole deal. I actually spent the $$$ on one of those huge power blocks that claims "clean" power to the devices and that is why I am so irritated over the buzz. I'm almost certain that it is all in the display itself. I identified it early on, but it wasn't audible once the volume was at a normal level. Now I have to turn the receiver up so loud to get over the buzz that the sound covers almost the entire house.

I'm going to call the manufacturers tech line today to see if there is anything they will do. Otherwise I'm afraid it will just have to go back!

Nick:

I can think of 3 scenarios.

In a previous post you said you turned the volume up on the reciever. I realize your using hdmi, but do you have other components in the mix? I know this sound silly, but could there possibly a video line plugged into an audio input?? Dont laugh, Ive seen it.

2nd. You may in fact have a power issue as stated above. The big chain stores always want you to spend the extra bucks on the big power strips. Those strips offer limited protection and even less power conditioning. What kind did you get, Monster?

Lastly, if its not the power, its the TV. See, you should of got one through me

I'll check it for you this weekend

Tom

You aren't watching the Animal Channel documentary on Bumble Bees are ya ?? Might explain the buzzing.

Hah! Good one Pistol....

I talked to the manufacturer and they were supposed to have the technician contact me this afternoon, but it never happened.

Tom, I am going to re-check all my connections one last time!

Exchange it tonight and see if the new one does it to.
