Going up in isnt that hard but going down just keep it in a low gear. Its really awesome up there. It takes awhile to get up to the top but its worth it. Keep EGTs in check!!!!

I've made the trip several times, with visiting relatives, when I was stationed in the Colorado Springs area. Coming down, you'd best be low gear. Many people overheat their brakes, perhaps why they have a brake check station coming down hill. Great trip and view. Don't forget to do the Royal Gorge. Drove across it and the pucker factor was W-A-Y up there. Took the long way back.

~dave

srowen:
Truck will have no probelm getting up there. While driving up it think about the race they have up that road every year. Those boys just flat haul up there. I think they get up it in about 10 minutes or so. They have all sorts of classes including modified big rig tractors. Quite the show seeing someone going 80+ up that road.

If you have the time make sure you drive gold camp road to cripple creek and come back thru phantom canyon. that will put you just before royal gorge.Stationed in Fort Carson 3 years and these where my favorite mountain roads.

Last summer was the 2nd time I had been. Its not bad. About halfway up, it turns into dirt road. Gotta love meeting a motor grader coming down as you are going up.
