PepBoy Tires

I am going to need tires pretty soon and have been watching the threads. I don't recall seeing anything about the:
Futura Dakota A/T Truck/SUV
50,000 MILE WARRANTY. ALL TERRAIN.

They have a tread pattern that will suite my needs, but I was wondering about how they really wear, ease of balancing, hard spots, etc.

By the way, where did you find the Coopers cheaper? I've had a couple of sets, and liked them, but the dealer started charging for Road Hazard that didn't include rotate and balance or flat tire repair.

I had a set of Futura's on a '78 GMC 3/4 and I really liked the tires. I only had the truck for 30,000 miles after I bought the tires, but they were still in very good shape. The sidewalls seem to be fairly thick and that is a selling point for me. I never towed anything with the truck though so I can't tell you about towing. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about the sidewalls and how much "bulge" they had. The heaviest I ever load is a 2500 # cabover camper (not often enough) , but have not had problems with D rated tires.

There made by Cooper for Pep Boys. Those Dakota's have a pattern similiar to the BFG all-terrains.

I ran them on my '85 D250 and was happy with them. I have the "genuine" Cooper equivalent to the Dakota A/T's on the rear of my truck now. Found them at a lower price or I would have got another set of the Futuras. These are wearing fine and staying balanced. I've got 30k on them and there's still at least another 30k in them.

Thanks for the info. I was leaning toward the Pro Comps, but if I can save $50 a tire for something that will serve my needs, that's what I'll do.

Besides, I need to buy 5 tires. I'm running 285's now, and still have the origional 245 spare. Fortunatly, I have never had it off the rack.

Also, where did you find the Coopers cheaper? I've had a couple of sets and liked them. But, the dealers Road Hazard coverage stopped including rotate and balance and flat repair.

I got them through the independent tire shop that does all the big trucks at work. They know me through work and I paid cash so I got a good deal.

Lucky dog!

The dealer I spoke of before is an independant. When the dad ran the business for about 40 years, it was a good place to do business. He turned it over to his son a few years ago, and it has gone down hill ever since. I know a few folks that traded there a lot more then me, and now they don't go back either. Higher prices and poor service........

I can't stand the NO Pep Boys...2hrs. for new tires, 1 hr. for balance & rotation and 1 hr. for road hazzard warranty..I thought the tech doing mine had died. Now I buy mine from a friend of a friend wholesaler or the net next and get a used tire store to mount and balance them fast and a fair price.

Not sure if you're anywhere close to an Orscheln Farm and Home, but they have pretty good deals on tires. The only one I see in TX is in Bonham? Anyway, their tires are made by Dayton as I remember it. They mount and balance for free (lifetime rotate and balance) and often run a buy 3 get the 4th free deal.

I know this isn't what you were originally asking about, but that's where the tires I run are from and I have been pretty happy with em.
