im trying to work on a PC for someone who has no info on its previous setup. i gained access to to administrator account, and even the system account, but in both, it denies me access to group policy. it looks like the group policy was nailed down pretty tight, but i cant even get to group policy. the administrator account was locked also, fwiw. it is not on a domain, its on a workgroup, and mainly used for internet access.

any ideas??

 

So the only account you have access to does not let you go to start->run->gpedit.msc ?

If you download a program called "Hijack this" and run it, it has the ability to remove some restrictions on the computer. When you run it you will usually see a line that lists off the restriction or a registry key then says (Restrictions Present) at the end of it. Pretty easy to identify.

From the sounds of it, he hasnt even really used it yet.. so i wouldnt even fuss with trying to gain access- just format and reinstall since he probably has nothing of value on it...

 

i can get in all the accounts, but none (administrator included) will give me gpedit access. it'll open, but only after an access denied screen and with no functionality.

i've thought of reformatting it, but its got at least one program i dont have, and i doubt if they'll know where the cd is
