Thought about getting em powdercoated but Im sinking enough money in intercooling this ol rig. So Im gonna spray em. I bought some 1200* paint for grills...tested it on a piece of tubing and it turned up stove black, like a dark gray. I used some high temp VHT paint on my turbo that stuck great so far. My question is, should I find some gloss black 1200 or higher paint, or will engine paint (rated at 500-600) work? I know the stacks wont hit 1200, but will they be close enough to the 500 mark to discolor the paint.

Im not much help but dont go with the engine paint. From experience you will get bubbles and smell even if the stacks only get up to around 300.
theres this coating i have in my garage that you can spray on after something has been painted, its not for metal, but it works it job, and i had it on an engine block for 75k miles and it stayed clean, looked good, and never bubbled or anything, looked like a fresh coat of paint still after 75k, it keeps the dirt off and penetrates the paint to hold it on tight, is almost like a clear coat, when i go out to my garage i will get the name and let you know.

Thats the one Im talking bout...just seems like 50 miles. I found some that will work alright for now. Got the box half fabbed up, little more cutting/welding tomorrow. Painted the stacks tonight. Got a little run in one that made me mad, but itll buff out once I get the paint set right.
