Paint damage on hood

Hey folks, The high winds in North Texas this weekend have put a hurting on me. I'm blessed that we did not have the damage or loss of life that Tennessee had.

Wind blew my basketball goal onto my head, I reached to divert it and broke my pinky AND it landed on the hood of my truck. It gouged the hood down to the pretty sheet metal and about 6" long.

I don't know what hurt worse, the pinky or looking at the ol girl.

So will a reputable shop replace the hood or maybe build it up with welding slag and smooth it out? I prefer the build up but not bondo!

They will probably bondo it and charge your insurance for a new hood.

Is the metal dented? If not then they'll just sand it out and spot paint it. (or at least I would.) Then they'll charge your insurance for a new hood.

Its dented and a deep deep scratch. I will put pics up tomorrow.
I'm not going to file insurance claim. I was just going to pay for it outright, that was until you told me I'm gonna pay for a hood whether I want to or not!!!!

a good shop can use a hammer and dolly to smooth it. its not a hard process.

It could probably be leaded in fairly easily if you find a shop that does lead. I don't know if labor would make it more expensive than a new hood or not. Check prices on a repl hood then all you need is paint.

hooded message

Can anyone say "Salvage yard"??? You can find one and replace yourself, then take to get repainted and the shop can...... Altogether now, "Charge your insurance company for a new hood"

You mean you haven't been looking for an excuse to get an aftermarket hood?

I hadn't thought about a hood until I saw one on Spike yesterday. Looked like the SRT10 or something on a red 2500.

I called for a price today and they asked me if I had heat shield on my hood, I don't on my auto but the stick does. I never noticed that before. $1149 was the price quoted.

So now I want to know the price differnce for a SRT10 hood!!!!

the price difference is so you think your getting a good deal by buying the whole SRT package.
