Owners for Jeep Commanders Please!

My wife wants a new Jeep Commander. We want to make a good choice on motors. I have read a bunch of post on the Hemi getting crappy milage. Any new info from you guys that would help our descision would be GREATLY appreciated!

The '06 Saturn just can't make it down our country road anymore! What a hunk of junk!

If you want MPG's and enough power to get you back and fourth/tow a small boat stay with the 4.7l. I have had a couple of vehicles with that engine and it really moves----Durango (03) SLT+, 4x4, AWD, averaged 18.5mpg!! All of the 3 Hemi Vehicles that I have ever owned / drove got crappy mileage----expecially while towing..... The GM at my local Dealership drove one for about a Month after they came out and he said that the HEMI was overkill for the Commander and that the V6 or 4.7v8 was enough!

The grand cherokee is supposed to be out with a v6 diesel that should get very good mileage. Its not a commander but might be worth a look.

Thanks. It appeared on the internet that Dodge says the milage is the same with the hemi or without it. I find that hard to believe, but I didn't see it myself so maybe something was messed up. I'd get the V6, but I just don't want the speed to drop 3 miles per hour when I turn the air conditioner on like the Saturn does. The vehicle we get will never pull more than a small 10' utility trailer (because my other trailers are 24' GN's) so I won't need a lot of towing power. I'd just like to pull my 4 wheeler sometimes and have lots of room since we have a baby on the way.

She is pretty set on the Commander. Actually, she would die for an H1, but we know $150K is out of the question.

My mom actually has a WK Grand Cherokee with a Hemi. It gets better mileage than I thought it would. Around 18+ on the highway consistently. And that thing hauls for a stock vehicle.

The BRAND new Hemi's actually get decent mileage because they have that feature now to where it shuts down a couple cylinders at cruising speed to gain MPG. My brothers boss has an 06' Dodge 1500 w/ the hemi and he's getting around 18 on average......not to shabby for a hemi!
