CONWAY, N.H. (AP) — The man police discovered in a women's outhouse tank last month says he was searching for his wedding ring.

Gary Moody, 45, of Gardiner, Maine, pleaded innocent Monday to trespassing and disorderly conduct from the incident at a rest stop off the Kancamagus Highway (search).

Moody was arrested after a girl entered the restroom and saw him in the raw sewage tank.

In court documents, the arresting officer reported Moody told him he was doing nothing wrong.

"He told me that he was changing clothes when he dropped his wedding ring into he toilet," Carroll County Sheriff's Capt. Jon Herbert wrote. "He said the ring was very valuable and he did not want to return home without it."

The officer reported Moody said he dropped into the tank through the toilet opening to search for the ring, and hid, out of embarrassment, when someone came into the outhouse.

Police screened the sewage and said they found no rings.

This reminds me of something that happened in a US Forest Service campground many years ago. I was in the new outhouse it consisted of a large tank with a small building over it. One side was for the men, the other side Women.

It was brand new construction and pretty nice accomidations overall. As I was preparing to leave I heard the door on the Women side open and shut. I waited a moment then hollered down the hole
"For crying out loud lady! I am trying to paint down here!"

The next sound I heard was the slamming door as she exited in a bit of a hurry. My wife asked me what happened as she saw the woman run out of the bathroom. I of course had no idea what had happened

Heck, I'm on my third one in 11 years! I has too lazy to search for my first lost one in one of those industrial compactors...(textile trash, not human waste, mind you)

HAHAHA never figured that this would reach the nation! This happened about 30min from me in the next town over! This was a new biulding(bout a year old) the thing is huge, all post and beam!

I lived in that area too for a time. A SHORT time! Just the few years it took me to complete 6th grade, then I moved on.

My ring is on permanent. ( tatoo ) Even if it fell it that hole I would leave it there.

Some sick individual got busted for that very same thing about 15 years back around here. He was at the Montana De Oro state beach in the sewage tank. A little girl told her mother " mommy a man is down there". Of course mommy didn't believe her and after the girl insisted mom went and took a look. The guy was a high paid attorney. It's a sick sick world.

Wow ... that is hard up. I can't stand going in most public johns due to the stank .. can't imagine crawling in one for a cheap thrill.
