Outer Banks trip planning

I have been elected, by the rest of the family, to plan a short trip to the Outer Banks, NC. They want to arrive on a Thursday late afternoon/evening, and leave on that Sunday (4 days). This would be from Sept. 21-24, 2006. They are also looking to rent a house, will be six altogether. Does anyone that lives there/goes down there have any suggestions on where to even start looking? Or, maybe even more importantly, where to stay away from. Any helpful suggestion to point me in the right direction (helping me avoid a Clark Griswold type trip ) would be GREATLY appreciated!

We have been renting from twiddy.com for a few years. The offroad area north of Corolla is awesome with wild horses and great rentals available. Checkout my gallery for alot of pics from the Carova Beach area north of Corolla.

Portsmith Island, or Davis Island (Cape Lookout)- - - -these are some great places to go and camp/fish. They have cabin rentals, and shower houses. These trucks aren't the best thing to go out in the deep sand tho. Keep it slow and steady. Good Luck and have fun!

Now what is wrong with a Sparky vacation? Those end up usaully being the most fun. Well, maybe after the fact. And if the up-tight's do not out rule the phun loving. Live the moment, have fun no matter what happens.
