Or, they were doing a little product placement, and it was all set up and funded by Diet Coke™ and perhaps Mentos™.

Now the question is; can you get the lid back on before it spews.
That pressure would have to go somewhere

: OK, so me being me, I had to try the Diet Coke and Mentos thing.(kinda the slow season here at work) What a serious disapointment. $3 and it only went about 3.5ft in the air. Maybe I didn't use enough Mentos, maybe the soda needs to be warm. I don't know but I am not spending anymore money on it to find out. Amazingly this is not the only thread here on such subjects, and there is some really nifty ideas in the other.

And I think I have an idea on how to get more height from the spew. Shove a long wire rod through the mentos so that when you put them into the pop bottle you can shove them all the way to the bottom. That way they get more contact with the pop, less foam at the bottom of the jug than the top. Oh, and use 4 or 5, angle the bottle away from you ,and duck!!
I don't know how but it seems like this little experiment became an instant attraction. One of the guys on the morning news show did this one, then he also drank some diet coke and ate some mentos. He just said he burped a lot. Hmmmm I think some mentos and pop could be put on the list soon...
