A buddy of mine was staying at a motel in KY earlier this week. He said that at about 1 am, he awoke to this commotion outside. Said some guy had passed out drunk in the cab of a newer F350 6.0no and his foot was stomping the accellerator to the floor. Several people attempted to wake him up by pounding on the windows, but the doors were locked and he could not be woken up. So he stayed like that for a couple hours. Wonder what kind of damage that could have caused to the engine? He'll probably turn it in for warranty work.

 

Nah, he was worried about wet-stacking the engine from idling all night, so he let it high-idle. The ECM would probably protect it from over revving.

Lucky that dude wasn't around here - he'd have probably been arrested - for being drunk AND prolonged idling.

 

Around here he would be shot!

 

I heard a guy talking the other day about getting or knowing a buddy that got a ticket for prolonged idling in Nashville. I guess he told the cop he never heard of such a law! I said that makes two of us. So now when I have my service truck on a jobsite in Nashville or greater metro I turn it off. How would that look on your record!! I suppose that is gonna help our "Global Warming" thing they keep telling me about....

 

i work for J.B. Hunt trucking as a mechanic and have heard quite a bit about no prolonged idling laws.

there is a system for big trucks called idle solutions. it is an inverter system that is designed for just that prurpose. that way drivers arent running their truck all night.

 

Cummins Icon is another system like that, maintains batt voltage, cab heat etc.
